Hi all. This is Vickie, posting under J.J.'s name.
I just want to say thank you over and over again to the retirees who attended tonight's meeting.
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, tonight I asked a favor, and our group came through in a tremendous way.
You see, I have a friend who is dying of cancer. Her name is Marcy Green, and she lives in Wesley Chapel. Marcy is 34 years old, and has a husband and two daughters, ages 15 and 7.
Marcy was diagnosed with colon cancer right after the birth of her second daughter. After years of treatments, radiation,chemo, and surgeries, Marcy is losing her battle. As of yesterday, tumors were found on her brain, lungs, spine, and esophagus. She hasn't been out of the house, other than doctor's appointments, since April.Hospice has been brought in to help her cope with her pain and assist the family. The family is devastated financially and emotionally. The youngest daughter went through treatment for leukemia, and has ow been in remission for almost a year.
My request tonight for donations for this family was met with an unbelievable response. The retirees completely opened their hearts, as well as their wallets, for Marcy & her family. We collected $455. It was extremely emotional for me to tell the folks this story. I'm not one to ask for help, I'd rather give it. As I try to type this, once again my eyes are filled with tears. Tears for the Green family, and tears of pride for the support I felt tonight. I know I can never thank you all enough. My very special thanks to Manuel, for donating his share of the 50/50. Another special thanks to the Association, for also donating their half. Yea, 100% to Marcy and her family.
We are organizing a benefit horse show for Marcy and her family. It will be a day of fun, whether or not you ride or own a horse. It will be held Sept. 11, at Smokehouse Creek Arena, in the Dade City/San Antonio area.
Once more, thank you all so much for being there. Your caring support means more than you'll ever know.
