some changes.

two things.

one is our new moderator, quil, who is coming in at level 2. everybody love on quil ;)

second is changes to haven. if you go and click on haven now you should get REALLY EXCITED because it will give you an option: get full stats now, or track pregnancy.

get full stats now is the normal, conventional way of getting baby stats which we've been doing since the game started up, and which most games do.

track pregnancy is a new and (hopefully) much more realistic system.

the first difference with track is that you are not guaranteed conception like you are with normal breeding. when you post, there is a chance you won't conceive. a system will eventually be developed regarding fertility at different times of the year/etc, but right now it's on a basic 50/50.

if you DO conceive, you still aren't guaranteed a baby. unlike normal breeding, you run the risk of having a miscarriage, or your baby becoming ill in the womb and dying. the key thing is that you aren't told this up front; the 'track' option lets you follow your pregnancy week by week, and anything could happen unexpectedly.

with track, stats are released on a week-by-week basis, meaning you don't get your full baby stats up front - you learn them over time. because of this, developments in your pregnancy (such as illness) will affect baby stats (such as health at birth). since baby stats are not determined at conception and will develop over time, your baby is not added to the database until about the time it is born - enabling you to deter choosing a name for your baby until you have seen its stats.

other advantages are that points and powers don't develop until later in the pregnancy, giving you more time to build them up. what happens to your mother-to-be directly affects her unborn child.

this new system is still just that - very, very new. i've not seen it anywhere else so i've nothing to model it on, and it will be under development over the next few weeks. you are, however, more than welcome to use track, since it is up and running now.

i should also point out that when i say "week by week" i mean real life weeks. you are given information about the pregnancy over 6 posts (the first one tells you whether or not you've conceived, and the the last one is a week before the child is due to be born). if your child dies in the womb at any point during pregnancy, you will obviously stop receiving updates on how the child is doing. you don't need to post for these updates; they will go up automatically for you, so you just need to check the board weekly.

finally, you must be aware that using track can be dangerous to the mother because it enables the possibility of dangerous pregnancy-related illnesses (such as an ectopic pregnancy or eclampsia). on these occasions your character should seek out a healer or a divine. please be aware that while there are risks involved in using track, they are generally impermanent and your character will never be killed without your permission.
