The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

As Sadakah leaped back like Misty had lunged at her, another shiver racked the ivory fem’s body. A part of her felt ashamed for acting the way she did. This was not the way a grown wolf should be acting. The old Misty would have laughed at this pitiful excuse for a wolfess. What had she turned into? Was there any turning back? Was she stuck this way forever? The questions swirled together in her mind as she pricked her lobes while still huddled to the ground. Sadakah had started speaking and it actually helped relax her to listen to the girl’s words. She felt herself calming and starting to straighten up, absorbing the maiden’s lyrics. A few things pricked her interest. Munashii? That was the name of the pack a few leagues from here. She had heard it was deserted now, with the stand in gone and no one daring to take the alpha’s place. Who knows? Maybe the place was cursed. When the huntress spoke of nightmares, Misty felt her orbits sadden and she shivered again, though this time because she definitely knew what Sadakah was talking about now.

She was afraid of the sun? Now she did feel like laughing, but that would be rude so she kept quiet. Of course it made sense after what the other velca had been through. Warmth meant fire to her; it meant danger, and death. Closeness meant danger to her now. Letting anyone in past her guards felt forbidden. Would she ever get over that or was she doomed to be alone? Her determination hardened. No, she couldn’t let herself come to that. Then the brutale spoke of her fear of puddles. Misty couldn’t help but let her labrums tug into a tiny smile at that one. At least the femina knew it was silly as well. She nodded her pate mutely in answer to her rhetorical question. Then Sadakah lowered herself to the ground till she was on eye level with Misty yet wouldn’t look her in the eye. It was respectful and she appreciated that, giving her a more reassuring smile. When the huntress spoke this time of being trapped and not surviving, the ghostly jezebel simply nodded her apex solemnly, agreeing with everything she was saying. It was exactly how she felt. When the nymph nodded to herself at the end, Misty wagged her plume a little and cocked her dome to the side, her globes rolling up to the clouds as she considered Sadakah’s words.

They made sense, after all. She couldn’t be afraid like this always. One day she would come out of her shell. There was no rushing it, but she could keep trying. Still being here talking to this lady was a big step, she could tell it. Making a new friend was a good thing, something she needed right now. The czaress’s next question threw her off guard. Her orbs flashed back to meet hers and their golden voids were wide eyed in fear and apprehension. Could she speak of him? Her gaze dropped to the ground and she cleared her throat slowly, her frame tensing up again. When she spoke, it was very slowly, like she was considering everything she said before saying it.

He was someone I fell for, hard. His name was…Phonix. He was my best friend and we hung out all the time, going all over Blossom to find stuff to do for fun. We fell for each other and it felt like magic, I couldn’t get enough of him. And then he left…and before I could ever recover from the blow his disappearance caused, he was back again and everything felt right again. I felt whole again. And just like that, I woke up one morning and he was gone again, as if he’d never returned in the first place. Maybe he didn’t want me…maybe he didn’t love me after all…

Her words dropped into silence as she continued to stare at the ground, her own depths going misty as she fought to hold back the tides of tears threatening to overflow. Suddenly she felt warmth and glanced up minutely to see Sadakah was now pressed against her and her chin was on her back. It should have felt awkward or made her fearful again, but she actually drew comfort and strength from the younger seraph, sighing as she rested her slender skull on her fore paws, waiting for the girl’s reaction to what she’d said.
