The brute prowled through the forest close to Traydon River, his mind elsewhere as usual. He barely noticed the moon above him, the scents of the area or the presence of another so close. He let his paws tread a path as his mind wandered. It wasn’t as if he had much on his mind to think about. He merely thought about his last meal, his last chat to his mother, his last sighting of his father. Although being a wolf of increasing years now, he didn’t forget about those who had brought him into the world. If some thought he was foolish for wanting to play guard duty to his mother he soon silenced them. That’s what he did. It didn’t matter that his mother was more than capable of taking care of herself, or that most of the time she actually saw him as a bit of a nuisance. He overlooked that minor fact.

He paused, mid-thought, only then taking in his surroundings. Traydon River. He hadn’t passed through this land in a long time. Taking the moment to drink, he studied his reflection under the moon. Gyfero was a large wolf, built like his mother rather than his skinny father. He wasn’t as tall as she was though, just slightly smaller but with more muscle. Alike both of them he was dark grey although his blue markings… well, he didn’t know where they came from.

Lifting his head, Gyfero turned. Now he was paying attention he sensed another close by. Usually he’d ignore this. He ignored most wolves unless he was on guard duty. Yet, there was something about the scent he couldn’t ignore. It smelt so clean, fresh. It confused him. Letting out a short bark, something he often although usually to warn others to back off, he waited to see if he had a response.
