fear cuts deeper than swords

Luckily her father had been very specific when she'd asked about how to get to Paradise from the mainland or else Aria would have considered herself well and truly lose. She kept her head above water and her eyes trained on the sandy shore lined with palm trees however as her legs churned in the cold sea. She didn't know why exactly she had such a drive to see the lands her father had once called his own other than to finally see with her own eyes all that he had told her. Paradise had always ranked first on that list. He had spoken of its clear blue waters, the year-round warm temperature, the nice shade provided from the trees. In the dead of winter as he regaled her with such stories it had been ingrained on her mind.

It had also been the place where the Woman-he-loved had died. Her feet finally struck thick sand and she managed to haul her petite frame from the ocean. She stood there dripping wet and with sand stuck to most of her lower extremities as she looked around. For a moment she closed her eyes and breathed deep to let the sounds and scents overwhelm her. There was the salty sting of the sea, the thick humidity in the air, the constant calls of some bird or another, and so much more. Finally she exhaled and opened her eyes once more.

For a moment she wondered if the same man who her father had forfeited this home to still lived here. Would he know her father or recognize her to be his daughter? They two looked uncannily alike save for the extra area of white on her hindquarters. She desperately wanted to meet someone who had known her sire during his time here. To tell her what he had been like.

Her pale hooves dug into the sand and she climbed the shore to where the cool shade of the trees awaited and the sand turned to grass. Even though the air on the main land had a the crisp bite of Autumn the weather was still hot and sticky here. Slowly she made her way between the trees not giving a second thought to what whomever called this place home might think, I suppose that's the plus side to being a brazen young horse who can't fathom anything harming them.
