At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

How amusing was it that the black abyss could suck one in to its heated furnace so quickly, so simply and yet with one mere action one could free themselves from the deathly ghost that was life. The resilient lassie had no idea what was raging through Kenai now. How he admired her métier, her will to live. In this vast plain of disaster and destruction only the strongest can survive. Dye was one of the strongest and for that; the colorful hessian absolutely cherished her. She had no idea what she triggered in him. Sympathy did not exist for the unseeing brute; it was admiration that traced his golden irises now; and other sentiments.

The cool touch of the cerulean waves gently caressed his wound and for a moment, the pain disappeared and all he could focus on was the bright seraph before him. His ocher gateways never left her as his large bodice bobbed in the liquid arms. She was waiting by the water’s edge, her hesitation causing a slight ache in his chest. He had begun to believe she had trusted him, that something more could form between the two. Then again, rushing matters would only create hardships and pain. It was senseless actually, how much he already cared so deeply for the lass. But the emotion made perfect sense to the hessian. To him, the frail creature was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. The thought of how the world viewed her made him anger. He knew he had shocked her with the idea of a swim but he just needed to…become clean. If that made any sense.

Finally, she stepped into the water, the cool sea sliding against her frame perfectly. She stops before her paws lift from the earth and Kenai doesn’t blame her, even with the slow current, it would drain her to wade out to him. The gentleman gave her a kind smile and began making his way to her. At her awkward statement, he let out a chuckle. “Yes, feel free to clean yourself if you wish. You look fine to me though.” It was the truth. Sure she had the drying crimson on her maw but that was natural. It was the way the sun’s rays danced upon her pure coat; the way her once tired eyes sparkled yet again. In major honesty, Kenai wanted to see her this way forever. The image of her slender frame shining in the water would be forever engraved in his mind. Strange enough, he could see her just fine. She shone better in his unseeing eyes than anything else. He could see her.

“Dye…” The brute stopped, pausing his gruff voice for a moment so as to collect his thoughts. Her smooth name had floated from his lips before he could grasp at it. “It will be getting dark soon and I just wanted to know if it was ok if I stayed with you for the night. I would feel better knowing you were alright.” The real words he wanted to say involved a longer time then this night. He wanted to stay with her for eternity. The real question was why?
