At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

She seemed amused by him, a reaction that was not uncommon, and one that Paxten had learned to expect. Either that, or hostility. The girl's expression morphed, shifting between several different changes over her pretty features before she settled on a more teasing, playful look. He could deal with that. Pax wasn't exactly sure what she'd do in response to his suggestion, but when she did answer his brows shut up, although his smirk did not slip and he still managed to look unfazed. To be quite frank, the boy didn't understand the concept of homosexuality in their kind. How would those wolves ever better the species, like they were meant to? But there were no bounds to love, it seemed. And Paxten probably wasn't the best person to preach about free love and things in relation to that. The tall boy lifted himself gracefully to his paws as she nudged him. "Well, doll," he said, "he was supposed to be yours, but hey - I don't discriminate." There, his smirk became a bright, coy smile that suggested the promise of things to come.

Easily pushing himself off of the boulder, Paxten landed with a resounding but soft thud on the mossy earth, his tail swinging jovially behind him as he bounded in a few single leaps across the tranquil waters. Pausing briefly, he took a moment to throw a wink at her, just before he approached the subject of their attentions. "Hello, sir," greeted Pax cheerfully, causing the elder wolf to stop in his tracks and eye him with a weary gaze clouded with age. The other male tilted his chin upwards to stare the far larger Pax in the eye, and the aforementioned child had to hold back a good natured grin.

'What do you want?' the male asked Paxten gruffly. The pale-sand boy cocked his head and let his ears flop adorably to the sides in a completely nonthreatening posture.
"The lady says that she couldn't help but notice your looks," he began, a charismatic smile beginning to form over his lips. Taken aback by the bluntness, the smaller lupine swung around to glare at the brown girl. Pax held back another brilliant smile and slid in front of his 'comrade' to block the prickly stare. "Don't worry, though, sir, we both thought you must've been incredibly handsome in your younger days." Thankfully, the other male didn't seem to notice his backhanded compliment. "Tell me, were you an alpha once?"

Eager now, the other male nodded. 'Why, I'd been the great king of the North, once,' he bragged. 'King Arken.' Triumphantly, Pax tossed a look over his shoulder at the hopefully still observing female.
"Really? Well, I'd never thought I'd meet the famed King!" Pax exclaimed with a nearly sincere awed tone. "I aspire to be like you, one day."
'Keep working at it, boy, I'm sure you'll get there soon enough,' Arken advised, his look wise and his eyes seeming to have lost their angry and old pallor. Now he looked enthusiastic, youthful again.
Knowledgeably, Paxten nodded, grey eyes soft. "Thank you, sir. I suppose I've got to go now, duty calls." He winked not-so-subtly at Arken and the other male smiled knowingly.
'Ah, yes. Young love. Well, son, I hope to see you again someday.' With that, they both parted and went their separate ways, Paxten's demeanor growing somewhat cocky as he pulled himself back up onto the rock next to the girl.

"And that, doll, is how it's done," said Paxten smugly, and then he frowned just in the slightest. "I mean, they do say 'absence makes the heart grow fonder', yeah?" And the smirk was back.
