At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

He had travelled far in his younger days – mainly to get away from the pack that now, when he looks back, held him ‘prisoner.’ He had travelled to different terrains, boggy, marshy, dry, and grassy. He had seen even the large prairie filled lands. But out of all his travels, Staircase Falls has to be his favourite, of all. The peaceful atmosphere just calms him from one paw in; no matter how much hate, anger or despair bubbling inside him it call is just taken off the cooker and cooled. The birds seemed to also enjoy – well actually the whole of nature seemed to enjoy it here! Even the angriest of beasts had to melt into the warm and hearty surrounding. It is his favourite land of all; it is a retreat for him; the gentle rushing of the liquid and the boisterous roughness of the water. You never knew what it would be like, whether it would be angry, calm; it is unpredictable even with the weather that you could usually guess. The trees seem full of life and spirit, beckoning you to happiness and the safety of their branches, but wolves are not known to fly… He thinks…

The girl paused, and he came to a halt. She asks whether she ought to trust him, Amatus, the boy who doesn’t kill unless he is extremely hungry. “Yoki, dear, do I really look like I am suddenly going to rip out your heart in front of all these witnesses?” He asks. His audettes perky and they almost asked the question themselves. “Look, I want to be your friend.” He says; it was a commanding voice that spoke but gentle with much thoughtfulness. She spoke of being hurt again, and his heart crumbled seeing a ‘friend’ like this. He forgets about his river walk and instead moves over to her. His muzzle swings under her chin, raising it as if she were going to collapse. “Listen to me; I won’t let anyone hurt you.” He swore, and Amatus attempts never to shatter a promise. He noses her cheek before giving her a quick lick in a, ‘I’m your friend now,’ sort of way. After the swift and confident movement he travels back to the crystalline water. He hopes, after his spoken words that the lady will join him. He wants – no yearns to have company, to have a trusty friend.

“So, Yoki, are you joining me?” He asks, a voice of pure happiness. He dearly and secretly hoped so, she seemed so.. broken and he wanted to share some of his light in his life to the lady. And he would guard her with all his life and might. She WAS going to be safe. She WAS going to be happy. And he WAS going to make sure of it!
His mind was set on it, even the buzzing of a fly didn't irritate him.
