She took no notice of Nikola when he instantly dived back into the dark water, but when his cries for little Balderdash rang in her ears, her head picked up again, and she picked herself up on trembling cold legs. This stallion was looking for her boy? He was not the child's father and they had only just met. Seeing and hearing his helpfulness warmed her heart, but it could not fix the break in it. She knew her boy was already gone, she did not need to see Nikola drag his own cold and defeated body from the water to know that. She glanced up at the sight of three mares joining them, but she could not find the words to tell them of what has happened. They knew a life had been lost.

Jabberwocky had stayed where he was, but his brown orbs were wide and he was shaking now. "Balderdash gone?" he whimpered, but Ali didn't hear him, she really didn't want to. Without another look at the rest of the group, she moved near Nikola, and let her head hang as low as his, till her nose brushed his. "You have noting to be sorry for Nikola," she spoke softly, her tone gentle,"I blame myself really. He was very young, and i can only hope he is alive and will wash up on one of the far away islands out there." She gave a small nod to herself and moved to stand close to the grullo stallion. She sought more comfort in men than woman. Jabberwocky took one look at the other mare's looming above him and made a beeline for his mother and the stallion. His head went to her chest, and his body against Nikola's. It seems he too seeks comfort from someone who could easily be his father figure.

When her cold side seemed to warm against Nikola, her eyes moved across the three mares. They were clearly waiting on some news. Looking to Nikola, she could tell he was probably not in the right mind to tell them just yet, but they had to know, and even if it wasn't her place, the golden girl straightened up and blinked back tears that threatened to appear. "The ocean has claimed the small life of Balderdash, a small colt i had only just adopted." There. Said and done. Glancing to her right, her eyes looked over Nikola's neck at one of the mares. She too was up against his side, and Ali felt a small flame burning in her chest, but she ignored it when Jabberwocky moved to quickly nurse from his dam. It was his only comfort for the moment.

With another shiver raking her body, she moved her head to rest it against the grullo. She just wanted quiet time now, to get away from this spot.
