At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Silent paws hit the ground gently, a soft thud flattens the earth and grass which attempts to touch the sky. There were no noises that shocked her, apart from the natural and perhaps annoying cries of birds. But every step, every shadow and creature she passed sent her heart racing and thumping. It quivered and shook her, she despised it; being petrified. It seemed to her that every corner there would be some sort of monster or blood-thirsty cannibal. Perhaps the frosty coloured girl was being paranoid, well yes, she was paranoid. She had always been, all through her adult hood. Her shyness and the unhealthy fear of life all started in her teens. Though she had blocked it out, buried it deep into different memories she still had the lingering fear of dying. She no longer remembered why she felt this way, she never even remembered ‘him.’ The brute that wormed this way in got your hopes up and fired you down once again. Many wolves had recorded seeing a wolf similar to his description, but all with different names. Perhaps Yumna allowed herself to fall too quickly and too hard, but at least he had got something, sadly.

Yumna had lost her pups, they had been born so lifeless and perhaps too early, as she suspected. No, that wasn’t true; they had just been sick and weak. All of them runts, perhaps it was for the best that they passed. It probably would have hurt Yumna even more if they had survived for a few months and then died. They all would have had names, their own personalities; yes, it was for the best. But because of all the grief and confusion the girl’s hair had turned the tinged colour of grey, dusty and light; it was everywhere. The only clear and unconquered area was perhaps her tummy. It was still a white and cuddly pelt there. If only she had someone or something to care for. She had tracked the adoption areas, hunting for someone to take under her wing. But in her mad haste she had just scared them off, it was hopeless and she was a hopeless mess. That was why she had given up completely; she was an utterly hopeless disaster of a wolf: how could she possibly take care of anything. Boy, she wouldn’t even be able to defend a piece of scrap.

A familiar territory opened up into the scenery with a chilling but equally satisfying sun beam. She basically leapt into the air; she was much more agile now. Her legs did not ache; she did not tire out easily. She had nothing in her belly, and no longer did it droop. In fact she had burnt it off quite easily, but she had no responsibilities, she had nothing to do with herself; so decided she had to get rid of the flat and flab. She was at much use to the pack now, though only if they did not scare her. Otherwise she would be lurking in the shadows… Hiding more like, this girl didn’t enjoy loud noises, heavy breathing or things in that kind of category. Even though she had lost the fat, she was still unhealthy, she was not social enough and her ribs were starting to poke out. She had felt to tired and grieved to even consider hunting; especially for herself. She had managed to catch a small vole, but to her they tasted disgusting but it wouldn’t have done any good any way. With a heavy sigh the girl sunk down; remembering who she was.

The place she had retreated to be a place she was most fond of; Staircase Falls. The gentle rushing of the water calmed her. Yumna felt more at peace and most relaxed in this area, as long as there weren’t many wolves, or any wolves that looked suspiciously shady. Luckily, no wolf looked suspicious in any way. It was totally normal, for now. Some wolf would come a long probably, demanding her name and trying to become her friend or something along those lines. She wasn’t going to fall for any more tricks now though; she was prepared and capable.
