i wonder what it’s like to know that i made the rain i’d store it in boxes with little yellow tags on every one ------------
With her last words, Zombie’s head snaps up which sends her forelock flying behind her ears. Kisei’s daughter! No way! The chocolate coated mare remembered when she’d stumbled upon the Forest after leaving Masquerade and the Ledge; she’d come across Kisei with one of his fillies in tow. This one! Well she was a lot bigger now than she had been a few years ago, but now that her brain was on the right track, Zombie remembered the pair.
”You’re Kisei’s daughter! That’s why you look so familiar!” she exclaims, all her sour thoughts of the Forest being shoved to the back of her mind to make room for her recent revelation. ”We met once, in the Forest. You told me you were going to own it one day,” she tells Impa, as if the mare didn’t remember herself. She smiled, her green eyes flashing. For a moment, Zombie is able to forget the strangeness that had been surrounding the Forest and relive a much happier time.
But her smile fades as she remembers why she’d even come to the Peak in the first place. She focuses her green eyes on the blanketed mare, trying not to eyeball her spots for too long. It has only briefly occurred to Zombie that staring was rude. Impa’s words were exactly Zombie’s thoughts; there was no way Kisei would’ve just up and left the Forest, especially if his family had been in any danger. Maybe the massive stallion had known the strange, spotted beast that took over? This is not something that Zombie hadn’t thought of before hand. She didn’t have any answers and it frustrated the silver mare.
”I really have no earthly idea what happened to Kisei,” she says sadly, but her ears flicker as she tries to put faces to the names of the girls Impa had recently rattled off. A smile split her features again as she realized she knew some of these mares. ”I’d only met Flare briefly. And Wildflower too. But Mazurka…” Zombie had never met her, only heard of her. She was the one that had died in childbirth and Zombie had briefly met her and Kisei’s young daughter. It had been the last time she’d seen him.
Zombie drops her head, letting her forelock flop over her eyes again, hiding from the scarier truths. ”I think she died giving birth. I never met her, only her daughter. It was actually the last time I saw Kisei. Do you think that’s why he left?” Zombie could hold no grudge against the stallion if that had been why he’d disappeared. Hadn’t she done almost the same thing when Masquerade had left?
