At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Reyna was …lost. She had lost something more than just Jase in their brief encounter; she had been shaken to her core and now she was left trying to judge what was true and what wasn’t. Full moons had passed her bye and she was left, still shaken, and still questioning. She had receded into a secluded life, talking to none. She was silent, a mute, by her own choice. She was still the same beautiful, innocent face she had always been on the outside, but on the inside she was an ugly mess. She was no longer beautiful in her own eyes, no longer lovely, no longer innocent. And the worst part was that she did it to herself.

And that’s how she found herself staring at her reflection; she saw a lovely face, the same lovely face she had always seen. And yet, she saw a terrible beast; something so fugly that she looked away, eyes squeezing shut, a tear slipping down her face and then dripping off her cheek. She shook her head and splashed through the puddle, left by the freezing sleet. It had ended around noon and the cloudy, grey skies told her that it would return and plunge her into darkness.

Everywhere she turned, her reflection followed her. She ran through the puddles, sending up a wave of freezing water that rained down upon her hunched shoulders. She crept forward, tears twinkling in her golden eyes. She rushed forward along the less used trail, though she knew none would be out on even the most mainly used trails; the weather would assure that.

She stopped as she reached the edge of the stream, wondering if she should just end it all; just jump down and let the river take her soul away… Just one jump. Just one and then she’d be in peace. Just peace. No more pain, she’d be left alone for good. She could just end it all. No pain, no gain, no nothing. Just perfect peace.

She smiled in a hazy state, inching closer to the water. She stepped out and….nothing. She frowned, her eyes drowsy as she stared down at the water that barely covered her paws. She frowned slightly, her gaze empty. She lifted her head, eyes narrowing at the bright sun.

There! She noticed a ledge, perched on the falls. She splashed out of the water, her matted coat tangling even further as she tugged her way through the tangled bramble. Her eyes glint with an insane light as she stands on the edge, quite literarily. She smirks down at what will be her death, until her eyes cloud with memories.

They are of Jase, of course.

She begins to speak, even if she didn’t mean too. “Jase, did you know I love you?” She asks the empty air, her eyes staring out. “I always have. Even back at the old pack. I remember our first hunt.” She pauses to chuckle. “It was a disaster! We managed to bring down a boar, but the alpha was soo mad. Remember, Jase?”

She breaks off again, her lip curling upwards. “I remember our first night away from the pack, remember when we had to take a hunting party away? Yes, well, they kept looking at us like we was about to burst into tears…” She continues this story, her rambling varying as she mumbles on, blankly staring at the sun as it begins to sink, basking her in a glowing light.

“I love you Jase.” She whispers as her memories draw to a close, the night grasping her and throwing her into suffocating darkness. She finds herself gasping for air as the pain shocks her to the core once again and she finds herself repeating the words, ‘I love you Jase’, just so she can anchor herself to the rock she stands on.

A whine rips through her, a sound that wretches her already broken heart even more. She’s left there, trying to pull herself together enough to end her life. She edges forward, and sends a shower of pebbles down into the roar of the falls.

She knows no one will care. No one will have heard the stories she’s just woven through words, the memories she’s shared with Jase.

Because she’s just the sniffling girl, the mute, hidden away in the corner.

She’s no one.

She’s someone they’ve forgotten about.

She’s just Reyna.
