The air is heavy as you make your way through unknown territory, as you pause to sniff the air a drop of rain falls onto your nose. It is soon followed by another and another and soon the rain is pelting down in sheets, soaking you to the bone. The clouds are an angry purple and the menacing drumming of thunder rolls over the sky. Squinting your eyes against the blinding water you find yourself at the edge of a large, dark pine forest. You are too desperate for shelter to notice the scents that mark the border and plunge in, and nearly into the chilly stream that runs through the territory. You veer away and as you are shaking the water out of your fur you notice a large pair of icy blue shards gazing at you. The storm has passed now and beams of sunlight filter through the thick canopy of pines, illuminating a massive male wolf not three feet away from where you stand.

His pelt looks like a bad patchwork job of black and white and beneath them you see large, hard bands of steely muscle and you know this is a warrior for his torso is marred with many battle scars. His banner curls over his back and his lips are drawn, exposing sharp ivory daggers. When he speaks his voice is deep and dominant, like the thunder you so recently heard.

"Wolf, you have found yourself in the terra of the Andere Seite Pack. I am Eclipse, king of this land."

It is only then that you notice another pair of lanterns gleaming in the penumbra and a dark-pelted fae slinks out into the clearing to stand next to the king, her own banner waves and her green and blue eyes bore into you. She is the same size as most males and a crisscrossing pattern of scars show that she too can take care of herself. Her voice is cold and has a snake-like sound to it yet you can see they are both fair rulers.

"And I am Nephthys, queen of Andere. We don’t care much for strangers so you must make your choice, Submit to us now or flee our lands and never return. If you fail to do either you will have little time left to regret it."

The formidable pair pierces you with their gaze and you feel as if all your secrets spill out before them. You are left with a decision now. Will you submit and take refuge in this dark forest or will you flee and never know what secrets these trees hide? Make haste, you can see that the pair grow tired of waiting.

DARIEN “I only want,”
VALENTINE “The best for me.”

I don’t think I’ve ever had a reason to hate myself- or anything I’ve ever done, for that matter. I’ve been upset, confused, disgusted and saddened by something I might of said or a reaction I might have had to something, but never hated. Regrettably, I can’t say the same for other people, and I was forced to witness a great deal of things that I hated in the short duration of a few minutes.

This family consultation was drawing out longer and longer and everything anyone did – good intentions or not— only enflamed the condition we were in. So it didn’t come as a surprise when Damon’s pessimistic words, which couldn’t have been less careful nor caring, ignited despondency in those of us who were wearing thin of his antics; triggering a very unfortunate series of events, or more of an explosion of events that all happened at the exact same time. First, the motherless creature had seemingly taken Cade’s advice, creating an entirely new situation which I knew for a fact would end badly for both sides of the attack. Nearly concurrently, Prussia released her own volley of equally choicely opinions, causing us both to feel the need for her protection mounting. This was terrible, in reality, that she should be afraid of punishment in her own family. . . But just as swiftly, and much to my repulsion, Onyx, the same one who only minutes prior had been in the ‘wrong’ threw her to the ground. At present, let me explain my views on these dealings.

All of this had stemmed from the fact that Damon, our cherished older brother, had opted to place around a dozen ravenous, easy to anger vampires into, essentially, an uncontained buffet, at which point he expects us to be on our best behavior. Look a bit further in, and he’s berated us so badly we have turned on each other in an attempt to redeem ourselves. This is depraved if only for the reason that, like I’ve just said, Onyx was the first to bite immorality, so he shouldn’t be playing messiah to a fellow sinner. Everyone was saying the wrong thing, not just Prussia, not just Sakari or Damon. The only difference was, Onyx had been the only one who’d done the wrong thing. What an arduous task it is, I sighed, to keep peace. Drawing myself up from the soil, I skirted around my fallen sibling, putting myself between the two- efficiently keeping him from wounding her any further. If he decided to try to go around me, I’d move with him- keeping my body as a barrier between the two for as long as possible. When I was satisfied he would expect Damon’s command, I’d wait along with him, taking on a conversational stance.

You know, there’s a saying . . ..” I leaned, with somewhat agreeably, closer to Onyx, my speech coming out more indifferent than I’d initially envisioned; an adjacent whisper. Tossing a sidelong glance towards Prussia, his sibling just as well as mine, I wet my lips before going on. “ I doubt you’ve heard it before, but it goes a little like this. ‘Don’t point out the splinter in your companion’s eye when there’s a log in your own’.” Trusting he’d figure it out; I turned my attention back to the pup and his advances. Mayhap he’d change my opinion of new offspring? It was just as valiant as it was ridiculous, and I admired him for his grit, if nothing else. Other than the demonstration he was offering us, there was little else to capture my attention, and I don’t think I could have found one even if I threw it at them. Peacemaking; probably a little exaggerated of me, but what can I say? I’ve resorted to dramatics to keep myself interested. We have plenty uninterested wolves in one area, there’s no reason to add another notch to the bedpost. Every now and then, I’d check on Onyx, my trust of his composure no longer valid. Not that I was in any place to judge. I was acting just as drastically as he was, just in my own way. I could practically see the resolve crumbling around us. Who would fall next?
