The scene that currently was playing out seemed tense to her, but that could just have been because she wished it to seem a particular way. Really she was unsure what to expect and what to do in such a situation, as she had never seen either of these mares. Again, the frustration filled her as she stared on, hearing the pale one speak to the giant. The slender dun seemed less than impressed with the fact that the bay had summoned the residents of the mountain in such a manner. Mouse wondered how she would be treated, once acknowledged.
A whinny saved her from her worried thoughts, and she looked in its direction to see a familiar form heading her way. She was glad to see Impa, especially after the friendly greeting she was given. Her nose bumped against the taller mare’s shoulder before she followed to join the other two. She was not too surprised to hear that the pale mare, Anath, was in a position of leadership here. As Mouse quietly inspected the other, she realized that although she did not look old, she looked…experienced. Yes, that was the best way to put it.
Though she had dipped her head slightly with Impa’s introduction, she did not yet speak. Social situations still were a source of intimidation and stress for her. She struggled to push away the feeling of anxiety while observing the three mares interact. Suddenly, the general spoke to her. Her ears flicked back not in anger but a touch of fear. Anath’s words were not unfriendly nor did they hold a tone that hinted at such a sentiment, but for some reason inexplicable to her, the words startled her for a moment. Her head shook and she looked up to the mare’s pale face. Shyly, she spoke softly, ”No, not yet.” Her lips then closed and she lowered her head, perhaps out of respect, but most likely due to feeling awkward. She wasn’t sure which.
What she was sure of was the fact that the three other mares positively towered over her, which further contributed to her unease. As a result, she simply stood her ground, letting her tail lazily brush over her hocks from time to time. When the biggest one, now known to her as Shira, spoke again, Mouse gazed at her with confusion. Restore the peak’s name? She glanced over at Impa, to guage her reaction on this matter. She had not an inkling of what the peak’s supposed “name” had been or was at the moment, much less what it could be. To her knowledge, it was simply a place for mares to live on their own.
Before she could further analyze Shira’s strange words, the palest of the four spoke again, with a tone that Mouse found condescending in a way, though Anath was smaller than the draft. However, she opted not to speak or interfere, as she too was new and had no desire to start off her life at the peak on bad terms with the woman in charge.
