Mystral was not impressed by the question of her intelligence. Her head drew back, displaying the ornamental rings of spikes that lined her neck, and she regarded Renzo with a look one might give to something smelly lying in their path.
"Riddles, is it? Too simple." She tossed her head proudly. "Bird in water not getting wet? Must not be there at all. Is reflection. Or shadow. Is right?" Despite her claim of distaste for the game, Mystral's eyes gleamed in expectation. It was clear that she fully expected an affirmative.

As Niaki asked her cautious question and explained it, Muse appeared to sink into himself further and further. The reaction was not a giveaway in itself. It could have simply been that he was hurt by the suspicion, rather than ashamed by its truth. Still, he took his time in answering.
One forefoot lifted to drag a set of claws through the dirt in the universal sign of reluctance, and the Night Walker let his head fall slightly, though he did not break eye contact.
"I don't want to harm you," he told her honestly. "You're beautiful. We've never seen your kind before. Mystral will hurt you." His voice dropped lower on those words. It was both a warning and an inevitable fact, at least in his opinion. "I won't." It was not exactly saying that he wouldn't help Mystral hurt Niaki or her brother, so it wasn't technically a lie, and Mystral had already given enough of her purpose away that Muse didn't feel too bad admitting as much as he had.
