aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

The call is strangely familiar that sweeps the pack lands, leaving me slightly dizzy and confused. How would I know this call? And yet every muscle in my body is urging me to follow the call, to meet the source because surely that will answer all my questions. My tail gives a subtle wave of familiarity as I run toward the borders, energy flowing freely through my frame. I'd just gotten back from the clearing when I heard the call, my muscles still aching from soreness, my coat still stained in blood from battle. Hitler had given it a good try but it wasn't good enough. He managed to gash my cheek, puncture and bruise my chest, and dislocate my hip. That was the worst injury by far and it took some good self-pep talk to convince me to drive my hip into a tree and pop it back into place.

Now it just aches with every step but I know that will fade with time. At least we have a month now to come back from it. Sin is gone. Her scent is fading. She succumbed to her battle injuries and that saddens me more than anything. I took this challenge to give her a break, having no idea that really I was giving her peace to die by. When I came back, she was gone, having moved away somewhere but the scent of death was unmistakable. Sin was gone. I miss her already and I can't find Akina anywhere to comfort her because I know this loss is going to be the hardest on her. Sin and her were best friends and now Sin is gone. It's still hard to believe.

I guess Rush and Infectorem succumbed to their sickness too. I haven't seen them since the pack hunt Akina called for. I've been limping around the borders, continuing my patrol. I can't let the pack lands go just because the leader is dead. I hear rumors that Cody will take over but he's gone to do some errands so I put myself on Aurora's defense while he's gone. I decided that I would watch over Aurora till he returns. I don't know much about Cody but he does seem like a fair wolf so I hope that means he'll be a fair leader.

I get closer to the borders and then I see that familiar black and white form. Could it be? I remember that form from Munahii Gekko, back when I defended the lands for Paranoia before her brother Angel took over and then Eric, the vampire wolf. I frown when I think of how he ruined the pack lands forever. He was what drove me from my home. I could not live where there was no Paranoia and no real life to speak of. He believed in death and the only other wolves he would let join is ones who would defend his pack during the day. I was not going to waste my days defending a leader I didn't believe in so I left. I get closer and when I see his face, only then can I put a name to it. Kalgalath. He was one of my closest friends when I lived in Munashii Gekko. I went to him with everything.

My lips crinkle back into a smile and I walk up to him, stopping before him, my tail already waving in welcome. Could it really be you, Kalgalath, or are my eyes deceiving me?
