aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

I can tell even from this distance that Sin is comforted by Akina's story. It's about them, no doubt in my mind. Akina is telling the story of how they met and grew so close. I can smell the salt of her tears as they stream down her scarred face, but they are happy tears, tears of a long life lived, a satisfied life, a life she doesn't regret. Even as Akina lies her head down to rest, I can sense that Sin is not letting go, not just yet. She doesn't want to die while Akina is aware. She doesn't want Akina to sense her gone and...whatever will come of it. I know that it won't be good. Even with this peaceful atmosphere, Akina won't let her go without a fight.

Once Akina is silent, only the steady rising and falling of her sides to let me know that she is sound asleep, Sin lets out a soft call. I answer with a huffing noise, just a breath to let her know that I am here. I am waiting, watching, guarding. I stand my ground as Sin leans over to whisper something into Akina's ears, a final farewell, I'm sure. Finally, slowly, Sin's head lowers to lie next to Akina's and I watch as her sides heave one last time in a peaceful breath, a breath of release, a breath of letting go. As if saying its own farewell, the skies open up, rain pouring down as the thunder shakes the earth, lightning streaking across the sky. I shudder, but not from the cold of the rain or the boom of the thunder. I shudder because a great leader is gone for good, gone to the heavens where she will run wild and free, her eyes seeing for the first time.

Not long after, I notice Akina's body moving, the movements of a wolf waking from a peaceful slumber. She looks over, noting the stillness of Sin's form and I'm sure sadness is clear on her beautiful features by now. She leans over, licking Sin's cheek, saying her own final goodbye. She looks around then and I swear she sees me, even as I stand in the shadows of the trees. Her eyes are knowing and yet still peaceful. She looks back at Sin's still form, whispering something, another goodbye. Then slowly she gets up, leaving Sin to her eternal slumber. She meets my gaze and her guards drop, her emotions there for all to see but none will see, none but one. I am crippled by her vulnerability, paralyzed by her love. She loves me, or at least that's what I want to say I see in those beautiful gazers of hers. I stand, speechless, as she walks over to me, my boyd embracing hers as she presses into me. It's like two puzzle pieces finding each other, falling right into place the way it should be. It feels natural and right.

She asks a soft question, causing my lips to slowly curl into a gentle smile, a loving smile, something they haven't worn in a long time, a lifetime. I lean my head down right next to her, pressing my nose to her forehead before answering in a whisper. The way I will always find you...I followed my heart.
