aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Magic felt the momentum when she jumped off the rock, eager to be at the level of friendship with the powerful wolf that sat in front of her. She nodded at his first words, and started to give an explanation. “I do love the night. The bright sun has just been almost always too bright, even though the warmth it gives is quite wonderful. I have never felt the warmth of the sun since I was a small pup, and I have forgotten how delightful it feels as it hugs the fur and your pelt, loving you in every way. It had just been a habit of mine, but I think I will begin to change that. And yes, I understand your point of view as well.” It was not meant as a speech, more like a very powerful way to express her feelings. She did that sometimes, used big words or lots of words to get the power of emotion out onto the playing field; she was a deep wolf, and anyone who had been around her for awhile might be able to see it. She laughed inside at the thought of him preferring to sleep at night but being alive and fully awake instead. She smiled, wrapping her banner around her paws.

She was happy that Kal agreed with her reasoning of learning and being with her pack mates. How could a pack function and work together properly if they didn’t understand each other? Quite a mess, it would be. So many different opinions... The black vixen gave one sudden nod, committing herself to what Kal had to say last; the pack would not function, live, or grow better if the pack started to build from the bottom, not in the middle and expect the project to land softly on the ground. “Of course,” she said to Kal’s comment about her mate. If the leader of the pack knew one of the pair, it was almost impossible not to learn or to make an effort to learn the other. Magic asked a question to get their conversation into gear, and she listened quite carefully to what Kalgalath had to say. Began his story with the time when he came to Blossom Forest. She listened to how he gave his explanation about how at first he did not want to be in a pack. Then he mentioned a fae.

By the way he sighed and paused, Magic could almost conclude that that was something he did not really want to talk about. Understandable. If that fae and Kal had once had something together, Magic understood completely that it might not be a subject that wanted to be spoken about or even remembered. Magic looked forward into the trees and kept her auds tooned to Kal’s words, not reacting to the pause in his words that had happened a moment ago. Her brows raised when he mentioned Munashii Gekko. She was on the verge of going there first before she looked into finding a mate, because of the way they had lived in the darkness. She had not chosen that pack because she thought that the way they thought about life in the sun was a bit wrong and that whatever they seemed to be doing what not in the right mind. She perked her flags and listened carefully.

Kong was the Beta there, and it surprised her that he was. Clearly, many a wolf could see that he was wonderful material to lead and/or shape a pack. Interesting; she would keep that in mind. Aindreas. She rolled the name over on her tongue. Kal had trained him in the past but did not know what became of him in the future. He had disappeared as well. By the end of his story, Magic knew for a fact that loyalty was something her leader took quite seriously, and she respected him even more for it; he was correct when he said that being a warrior was a trait that was supposed to be the most plentiful. The vixen nodded her black cranium and listened carefully, but his words had ended. She nodded, the taste of his words still simmering in her mouth, but as they disappeared, she wanted them to come back.

Kal surprised her when he said something about new pack members. She smiled brightly, inhaling the wind and scenting blood. Her goat kid; its scent was leaking through the trees. She ignored it, and waited for the words that she did not know were to come next. Ah... a couple of wolves, adult and pup, had joined the pack and Magic knew that these characters would play an important part in the rehab of the pack. She inhaled sharply; Kal could scent the kill on the breeze as well. She wasn’t worried that HE would want to take some of it; he could have as much as he liked. It was just the scavengers that would be searching for a meal in the night. She would have to re hide it again soon. She frowned when she heard that the little pup was practically skin and bones, and that made her want to help him. Thankfully, Kal asked her if she could share the kill she had suffocated and she nodded. “It would be my pleasure. As soon as dawn breaks, I will retrieve it and offer him some. Thank you for letting me know.” She was glad she was able to help, and looked up towards the stars in a silence that was not so awkward.
