At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

How lonely is the night without the howl of the wolf?

It felt like time had elapsed, like she was the only wolf in the world. Everything was so quiet and peaceful, yet it caused more pain the peace for a change. The silence wrapped its way around her like a restricting quilt, suffocating her, squeezing her till she could breathe no longer. Fidgeting nervously the ess kept her eyes wide open and ears erect on her cranium. She didn’t want to miss any oncoming wolf... Just in case her son decided to run off once again. The crows above squawked and squealed for their next meal, doing nothing to settle the girl’s growing nerves. She didn’t know why she was so nervous. Maybe it was because she didn’t know how Terrel would react. What he would say. What he would do. There was no backing down now though, this needed to be dealt with and fast.

The sound of trickling water brought with it so many memories and the vixen sighed softly. What was she going to do with him? Channing honestly didn’t know what Terrel saw in Henadin that she didn’t. Did he see some evil creature lurking deep inside? Because all Channing saw was a loving and tender wolf that would do whatever it took to keep her and her son happy. The ess knew that her son’s behaviour had something to do with his father and his past but that was exactly what it was, past. The girl wanted her son to know that things had changed. She wouldn’t let anything hurt him and would never let his past come back to haunt him.

Gazing over the terra she found herself in, the huntress smiled tenderly. She saw the little bundle of multi-coloured fur that she had adopted many moons ago. How he had gazed upon her like she was some form of angle come to rescue him. He had been so clumsy, cute and vulnerable that she just couldn’t have left him here on his own. Maybe it was fate that had brought the two together. Their lives meant to be intertwined from the very first day. The timber ess wrapped her tail round her paws tighter than it had been before, hoping to provide some comfort to herself- like a hug does to a young pup. What if after everything they had been through, the lad decided that he didn’t want to be with her anymore? That he wanted to leave SawTooth or Blossom and forget all about her. Channing gulped, knocking a knot of sadness back down her throat. A soft whimper escaped her jaws as the memories of her son began to fade. ”I am not loosing him!”

The first Channing knew of her son’s approach was the blur of colour that bounded up to her, forcing his head into her muzzle. It had been a sudden and unexpected surprise but she didn’t care. A series of soft whimpers escaped her maw, half out of sadness, half of happiness. He had come... He was here. Everything seemed perfect for a short while and the ess closed her eyes, allowing her nares to take in his scent once again. But it didn’t last. Shortly after his embrace the lad pulled away and it wasn’t until the breeze came once again that she realised why. The slight smell of Henadin reached her nares and it was apparent that it had caused the reaction in her son. Sighing once again the lass gazed at the brute in front of her. Things were never going to get better if he couldn’t get past the fact that she loved him and that was never going to change. Henadin was part of their lives now whether he wanted it or not.

Her auds twitched as two simple words entered the air, his voice was cracked and weak. ”I’m sorry,” The girl looked at her son, sympathy but disappointment in her eyes. She could only guess how hard it was for him to get his head around the whole situation but he was making it difficult for everybody else too. Channing took a deep breath in, pondering what to say to him. She knew how much he hated lectures but he had dropped himself in this one. This situation couldn’t go without a lecture, though she decided to take a gentler approach with him after all she loved him way too much. After letting the calming breath escape her maw, the ess shifted herself into a more relaxed and comfortable position and began...

”Terrel. I know you are sorry... I can see it in your eyes, and I appreciate your apology but, this is going to need a lot more than sorry. You hurt me deeply and not to mention insulted Henadin. I know this is a lot to take in and I could have maybe gone about it in a more gentle way but you need to listen to what I have to say.” The vixen moved closer to nuzzle the lad, not knowing whether he would embrace it or move away once again. ”I met Henadin only a short while ago, I know, but it was like love at first sight. I have gotten to know him a lot more over the past couple of days and to be honest he make me extremely happy. I don’t know what went on in your past to make you hate males this much, but I promise you, I will never, ever let anything happen to you. I love you so much and if you are too blinded by hatred to see it then, I have done all I can.” Not knowing how much more to say, she stopped. Terrel was bound to have questions about everything and so she waited patiently. What he would say and how she would answer it were two completely different stories, all she knew was that she would try her best to make it as comfortable as possible for him.
