Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

It is not long before my welcome committee shows up and to tell you the truth I am pleasantly surprised. The first and only face that I actually enjoy seeing second to my own, my big little brother: Azrael. Head tilts slightly to take in the relaxed state of my brother, nodding approvingly as he draws near, his silken words caressing my ears. He is fit as a fiddle and his fur shimmers with a gleam that I find myself envying somehow. Has he come across a better elixir for the health and growth of our pelts? If so he must share for I cannot have another out do muah. I mean how shameful it would be! No no we must be even or nothing at all. ”Well I fancy myself a remedy for sore eyes.” A look of disgust washes over my features for a split second despite the soft laugh that laces my words. My favorite sibling of all will know that I jest and the way energy seems to thrum through my body, I am happy to see him.

My own chortle adds to the tenor of his chuckle and with practiced ease I slid against that hateful mocking coat of his. Was it shea butter that he used? But I do not scent the nutty undertones. Damnit I must remind myself to question his secret. However I do not miss the fact that he now stands above me and if judging by that caress he is more than several pounds heavier. Yet he carries it well and surprisingly enough I am not threatened by it. His gleaming fur yes…his build…no. Funny how picky I can be at times. But then if I am to be honest it is because I constantly tell myself I cannot control my genetics but I can damn well control how I look. Did at one point his stature bothered me? Well of course. No one should look better than I and by being burlier and taller gives him that edge but I am more secretive. I can blend in and glean information better than he. I am the perfect spy for I was not raised under Heyel’s paw, well I was but the rest of the world does not have to know that. Not to say that I am better than my favorite…just better in different aspects of my job.
”Well you know he has eyes in the very rocks we trod upon. But it is your face that greets me not his. Funny that does not surprise me not a bit.” Was I hurt that my father did not spare the time to greet me. Yes but hey who was I kidding. The wolf would rather chase behind unworthy bloodlines than deal with his true brood and worthy candidates. Malina was the perfect example of such negligence. Even though the mere mention of the muddy creature had my fur standing on end I was slightly eager. I wanted to see the foul creature and ascertain that she is indeed well. That she has not taken a mate and that she is…dare I say happy? To say I felt for the girl would be a travesty yet I did. AND it was something I would not let another soul hear about so asking Az about her welfare was out. Le sigh the sacrafices one makes for the betterment of the bloodline. How else would these savage creatures learn if not by example…but maybe I should consult Heyel about these conflicting emotions.
Suddenly a disgruntle and oddly scratching sound assaults my ears and I cannot help but to pull them closer to my skull. That was….omg WHAT WAS THAT?! ”I do believe so. Care to accompany to put the poor wretched creature out of its misery?” Invisible eyebrows cock to the side as I stare into my brother’s eyes. I know he knows my line of thought. It has been quite some time since I actually took part in blood sport and a little action would be the best gift yet on my homecoming. With a devilish spark in my dark eyes I take a step forward, only to recoil when another scent assaults my delicate palate. Another of the same pack that marks the choking bastard. Ambush perchance? Head turns to view what should have been an angel with her ivory and crimson corsets yet the darkness that shadows her eyes give truth to her nature. ”Brother I see you have brought a toy to warm my den.” I say this with malice to her greeting, eyes never leaving her as my ears never leave the hidden one in the bush. Muscles coil and I am ready. I only hope a stream is nearby to cleanse myself after.
