Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

they are the brilliant ones

They walked so easily together, the knight and the lady slipping quietly through the trees. The fading afternoon sun complemented them both in different ways: she became darker, more mysterious, and he all but glittered, his bright markings swirling around him as the muscles rolled under his skin. Had she not been so focused, she might have slowed and let him take a lead so she could watch the movements of his fur. But she was one-sighted now, nervous, and excited. She squinted as they broke away from the tree cover and into the sunset’s light, and then had no choice but to relax.

It was done.

He knew now.

There was a long quiet moment between them while he looked around, and she waited anxiously to see what would come next. This had been an uncharacteristically bold move for her, revealing her home, her retreat, her stronghold. She was practically baring her soul for him to see. She offered it as a gesture of trust, as it was all she had to give. She could only hope that he wouldn’t make her regret it.

As they paused, taking in the scenery, she felt the air shift and he was suddenly touching her again. Her breath caught in her throat, her heart pounded in response to the contact, but she remained still, giving her consent by not pulling away. She could feel the muscle beneath his skin, the warmth of his creamy fur pressing gently into hers. She exhaled quietly, closing her eyes to savor the sensation, and it was gone again as quickly as it had come.

His eyes were on her, she knew. She could feel the heat of them on her face, and her body responded with a heat of its own. She was incapable of blushing, but a certain warmth crept along her spine and into her face, melting her nervous features into a happy grin. This she turned on him with playful intentions, eyes swimming in the fading light, but his face stopped her short. He was so intense in this moment, so focused on her, that she momentarily wondered if something was wrong.

It’s beautiful, Hush.

Her name on his breath again. The double meaning was not lost on her. She had never been pursued like this – she had always been the hunter, stringing her prey along until they got too close or she got bored. But he was much closer than anyone else had ever been. He sat at her side in her only sanctuary. Their inevitable parting would be painful, and she would crave him in a way she’d never craved anyone before. She craved him now.

It is, isn’t it?” she asked absently. Without thinking, she was standing again, looking him dead in the face. She hesitated for the briefest moment, and then thrust her head under his chin in one fluid motion, nuzzling her face into the soft fur at his throat. She breathed him deep, mouthed the loose skin of his neck, and murmured, “I’m so glad you’re here…I’ll miss you.” She allowed herself one more shallow breath and then tore away from him at a dead sprint, crashing through the creek and into the shadows of her protective trees. It was a desperate, blind run, and it took everything she had not to turn back.

Too close.
