A name befitting a Demon. “Dante,” she repeated levelly, the word strange on her tongue. It was not a breathless sigh, as Sen’s had been – but she couldn’t think of him. It would do her no good to think of him now. She had to play this right. She knew little of imprinting. Her parents hadn’t been imprints, and neither of them ever experienced it in their lifetimes, but there had been stories. ‘Legends’ was a more appropriate term for the fantastic tales her father had spun throughout her childhood. Was it supposed to be like this?
She could feel the tether between herself and Dante and see the passion in his face, but it didn’t make her want to slide along his body or taunt him with her alluring grace. This was a connection she had never expected or hoped to make. It was an anchor, a great weight on her neck; she feared that it would sink her and she would drown.
His apology was heartfelt, his eyes intent on her face, watching everything she did and felt. And her eyes were traitorous. They would dance to whatever song played through her head. “I guess…I guess that would be okay. If you promise to be nice.” How was she supposed to tell him no? His physical capabilities were obvious. She didn’t know him at all – how would he react to a rejection? It seemed safest to simply comply.
Home? She looked away from him, giving herself a moment to ebb the tide of panic that rose into her chest. No. He couldn’t know. Home was her place, and she wasn’t going to let him take it from her. “I am home,” she lied quickly. She summoned a smile, and turned it and her eyes on him at the same time. Even without the power of imprinting, this was a powerful look. It lit up her lavender eyes and her pretty face as her tail swished from hip to hip. Eager to change the subject, she sat also, appearing at ease in her alleged home. “Tell me about yourself,” she urged.
