PRIME MINISTER'S DECREE

"None." - Leader

The Offspring

Diccon (Cicada x Khar'pern)

Rules

• The Vulcan Peak is where homeless mares come to live as a sisterhood. Stallions may not live here except as captives or companions for the Leaders.

• Warriors keep mainly to fighting, Thinkers keep mainly to raiding, and Politicians may do both, neither, or act as diplomats. Members may issue their own battles and raids, but should generally consult the General, Codebreaker or Prime Minister for permission.

• All major decisions are determined by vote, but the Prime Minister maintains order within the Peak and has the final say.

• Elections for leadership positions will be held every TLI summer, provided the qualifying criteria are met.

• You can find detailed information about how the Peak works on the Rules page.

Your grace is wasted in your face

your boldness stands alone among the wreck;
now learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck

Hemlock couldn’t help but notice the power that Irvosat seemed to carry as she stood against the early morning sky. She looked confident and comfortable, like she trekked the mountain so regularly they had come to be the best of friends. Of course, however, Hemlock wouldn’t know either way; this was her first climb and even through its harshness she felt satisfied now that she was standing, one hoof tilted, at the very top.

"The long way up?" she said with amused disbelief. "You’re telling me I didn’t have to fight quite so hard not to die?" She laughed. Well, at least the hard meant that an easier way existed. She would have to find out where the different routes were along the mountain, eventually; today she planned to spend wandering lazily, exploring the higher parts with hopefully less up-and-down work.

Since she had last spoken with Irvosat, the mare had gathered a base of information about the peak and its inhabitants. Not many details, but enough to know that she could call this home if she wished, and that she would not be bothered by the men of the islands. She wondered if the mares of the peak fought for their own or for others’ freedom; since her childhood, she longed to know her skills on the battlefield. She had grown up wishing she could fight for the ones who couldn’t fight for themselves, like her mother. She never wanted to be in that position and often itched to pick a fight, just to see what would happen, how she would fare.

She put those thoughts out of her mind. As she had been climbing, Hemlock had payed attention on and off to the sunrise. "You can see everything from up here," she said. "I feel almost eye-level with the sun."
