Once a great battle had been fought in this cavern, against a dark beast that had once - and still might - dwell here. No one knows where he disappeared to, but there are rumours...

The brute went under the water once more, the fish trying to tear his foot off. Pain ripped up his spine, making the brute clench his teeth. The fish was shaking fiercely, very much like a pup would do to a toy. Its teeth dug into Zev’s flesh. The titian searched the water with his icy gaze, finding the fish still clasped to his leg. He grasped his jaws around the fish, one of his teeth sinking into its eye. The creature immediately let go, blood whirling out of its wound and soaking into the water to faintly make it red. He couldn’t hold his breath any longer when his cranium burst out of the water. He inhaled a sharp breath before hurriedly for the ess. He found her just as the water started to spin to the right. The brute had to fight against the current in order to reach Athene. He grasped her scruff and told her to hold on right when the cavern turned into a whirlpool. The lad struggled to keep himself and Athene afloat, his foot still bleeding into the water. A wave surged over his head, sending it right into his eyes as he tried to keep the both of them where they could breath.

The brute lost himself under another wave, forcing him to let go of the ess. He blinked under the water, then swam with strength back to the surface. His face was plastered to his skull, his head not as fluffy as it had been a mere hour ago. He found Athene again and she helped him get back onto the staircase they he had found on his descent an eternity ago. The water was up to his chest, but it was the least that he could stand. It was the last step until the hole in the wall, and then the pair could make a run for it to the outside. “Jump on my back and reach the top!” He waited for the hit of her body, but it never came. Instead, her lyrics echoed inside the cavern. “Stuck is my paw, as if in an iron jaw. I can’t pull it free… you might have to leave me.” The ess’s foot was trapped in the wall, and the brute almost growled to himself. At all times, why had fate wanted to mess with them? “I am not going to leave you, Athene. I am going to get your paw unstuck, but it might hurt a bit. Scream if I hurt you.” The brute carefully grasped his jaws around the fae’s leg, not letting his teeth seep into her flesh. He pulled harder, but her foot would not come out. Through a mouthful of fur, he growled to himself. He pushed her paw up and then pulled again, and with that action, she was freed.

“Now, jump on my back so you can reach the hole. I can jump from here, but you must hurry. If you don’t move yourself, I will throw you up there. The choice is yours.” He waited until she made her decision before he acted as he said either way. Once the ess was atop into the hole, the brute made a large jump to find himself grasping the edge of it a second later. He pulled himself upward onto the ledge, searching the darkness for Athene. Looking back at the whirlpool, it started to lap up at the edges of the entrance. It could stop there if the rain stopped outside, or it could continue to flood the caverns. Above him, he heard the rain start to ease, and he faced back towards the cavern, seeing the water slowly sink back to where it came from.
