aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

‘That is what I thought as well. However, I tend not to go diving for fish for exactly that reason. I prefer just to swipe them out of the water with my paw – I got quite good at fishing. Although, that does seem to be the only thing that I am good at.’ “You’ve probably had a lot more experience in that field than me then! Or maybe you’re simply a natural – I am awful at fishing; maybe I need to work on my reflexes… And Hellene I doubt it’s the only thing you’re good at – there’s probably loads of things only you’re looking at the negative things.” Her words were a daze and formation of sweet, genuine lyrics. Leila couldn’t imagine herself being a professional fisher, it just wasn’t her game – maybe it was even impossible for her! Although swiping with your paws, she thought earnestly, sounded a good idea – she would have to make time to try it out. And if she ever succeeded in performing fishing with ease, the tempest would teach it to Tyson – to prevent him from experiencing the humiliating experience of failure of such a simple task. She chuckled; but maybe when he was older.

The crystalline water twisted and engulfed every curve of her form, discovering every single little strand of her hair within reach. And it devoured it in hunger. The liquid soothed her body, making all the dull itchiness of bugs slowly seep into the abyss. It pacified the dull aches of her pads and subdued her fiery soul. A deep rumble of a growl vibrated from her chest in pure ecstasy and satisfaction. ‘I love the water! It is so comfortable!” Her relaxation was instantly dropped, shattering to the ground as she became aware of another presence so close; brewing her soul silently into a playful frenzy. A large, unmistakeable grin began to slowly but surely dominate her kissers, accompanied soon after by a little laugh in agreement. It was wiped away instantly. Sun kissed eyes observed with a large amount of concern as she choked upon the water. And although Leila’s stance was something of play; she was deeply troubled by anyone’s pain so it was no surprised when a sigh of relief was sharply released. The tempest giggled as she watched Hellene spit it up and began to participate with her own curious laughter.

The opportunity of mischief was just too difficult not to resist, her paw descended against the water with a vigorous slap, thrusting the cool liquid into the air and upon to the pelt of Hellene. The ashen vixen understood that it wouldn’t have made a lot of difference but it would lighten their hearts with play. ‘Hey!’ The mistress laughed, her sooty kissers opening in wide amusement. Her pillars beat wildly, boisterously – allowing her to rise against the surface and watch the girl’s reaction. At first, sweet Leila assumed Hellene had taken offence to her spirited actions and had turned her tail to leave…. However it soon appeared that it was something quite deliberate. Like an eruption of a volcano, pure water engulfed her face, her maw seizing a sharp intake of breath. “Okay,” she breathed, calmly, “you got me back!” She wasn’t rewarded with a chance of strike two because Hellene was already guiding herself out of land. So with a small smile, Leila quickly followed suit.

Her body shook forcefully twice, allowing the water droplets to be guided upon to the silt instead of her hide. After giving her pelt a chance of drying, the lass settled upon the ground searching up into the girl’s face. ‘Thank you for showing me this place, Leila. You cannot not how much you have lightened my heart.’ A smile broadened upon the vixen’s maw. “No need to thank me, you would have found this place sooner or later – I was just giving you a head start but I am glad I showed you it any way.” Her words were friendly and collective, sun kissed eyes possessing only warmth for her new friend but then they changed, noticing the anxious expression she held.

‘Leila… I was thinking about adopting. I know that I have no mate, but I am quite lonesome. Especially without my sister. And I know I can be quite trying at times… angsty and raw and coarse. But I think I just need family back in my life. What do you think?’ Her banner swayed approvingly. “It’s a brilliant idea.” She said, her words were a mixture of warmth and admiration. But that was all she said for a while – sun set lanterns gazing into the distance with a small smile.

The young tempest felt peaceful, she had never had female companionship before – always befriending males but she hadn’t realised then what she had been missing.

“When?” She asked.
