aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

‘Aye, beauty, it has been. What happened to keeping the nicknames secret? It’s embarrassing!’ Leila’s ashen kissers broadened into a wide grin at his lyrics; fiery mango lanterns gleaming with an unmistakeable mischief. “I believe your memory has been deceiving you because Mighty King Kalgalath – we agreed upon the silence of another nickname not to be shared. And don’t try to deny it, dear.” She said, eyes narrowing with a defiant cheerfulness. “Anyway, I am pleased your day has treated you well, Kal.” Her somersault of libretti came to a sturdy halt upon then, charcoal paws dancing elegantly away upon the famous ground and turning from his gaze. Her haunches lowered to the terrain’s ground next to the little bodice of Destan who was the only familiar face to Leila. A perfume of anxiety tinged the air, and Leila bent down to greet the pup with warm and hopefully comforting lyrics.

‘Hi L..Leila. I.. I..I’m o..okay. H...How are y...y...you?’ The phantom smiled, “I’m well – how are you settling in?” Her words were gentle to the match the anxious character of Deston. But then there was another form stepping forward. Leila’s eyes turned down to a pup who had excitedly greeted young Destan, inquiring about Leila too. She smiled warmly. “Hello.”

The girl’s inquisitive lanterns swivelled alertly to the alpha with a keen interest, he was currently being greeted by another female; her hide was of graceful multi-hued colours – browns, sandier yellows and rough patches of black. Leila’s attention was automatically caught and fixated upon the pair of wolves, deciphering all their actions and words were perfect ease. She smirked, so what was going on there then? ‘I am better now that you are back.’A thoughtful glaze sparked in the depths of her fiery eyes, Kalgalath’s words seemed to have hidden depth within them – that was for defiant certain. Leila smiled warmly; she was pleased for them both – whatever her name was. Although with a small frown, Leila caught on that they seemed to be almost uncertain of each other. They were not together then? It was obvious from Kal’s shy exterior hidden beneath the disguise of cough, the lady’s surprised- or perhaps hurt - expression turning stoic and hard. That was the trouble of love; it was got you into situations of pain you never even knew you could experience. The phantom had loved before; a youthful love that had meant nothing but she knew how both wonderful and painful it felt...

The spectre’s lanterns crossed over all of the wolves who had arrived to the meeting; an ashen female, a male that Leila had recently found out who was Chiron, yet another ebony female who greeted Chiron with warmth and compassion, young Destan of course, the female who was greeting Kal and finally the young white pup.

The girl’s banner swayed gently as her friend, Hellene arrived to the pack meeting. She addressed the pups Destan and Khaleesi, telling them that she wished to speak to them after the meeting. Leila smiled, immediately knowing what Hellene wanted to talk about. “Hello Hellene, are you well?” She asked softly. A few more wolves arrive, although none that Leila was acquainted with.

‘As many of you know, I'm Zig. I just got back from my ambassador trip to Saw Tooth to speak with Moth. She has given me the terms of the alliance and I'm here to share them with all of you. The terms are as follows: 1.) If either pack should be rendered unliveable, the other must offer sanctuary. 2.) Assistance should Abendrot begin stealing wolves again and target either pack. And 3.) Should either pack find out volatile information against the other, that it be shared. As Moth told me, we are by no means weak as one pack but as two together, we are nearly unstoppable. I think her terms are fair and just. Also, Moth has extended her welcome to us. She has asked me to say that we are always welcome to visit Saw Tooth whenever we please.’ Leila didn’t care for the information as much as other wolves, she preferred a family of small, strong and collected warriors – she barely knew the ones in Aurora Borealis! She doubted that their assistance would ever truly be required; still the phantom knew other wolves would appreciate it so she remained silent.

Then Kalgalath once again spoke, his words of authority sharing something that truly shocked the girl. ‘I found this new-born pup by Staircase falls. I gave her a little of my stomach contents to keep her nourished and warm. But since she had no colostrum she needs something to boost her immune system. I was hoping one of you would know some herb lore?’

Leila’s eyes closed, desperately attempting to remember her mother’s lesson in herbs – oh why hadn’t she listened? Her teeth bit down on the side of her cheek, trying to remember. Stupid, stupid girl.

“I think…” She began, “I’m not sure but ragweed is supposed to give strength and energy but… immune system… sorry Kalgalath, I don’t know.” Her ears flattened against her cranium in a small apology; eyes never leaving the small form of the pup. Stupid, stupid girl.
