Serris could tell she was uncomfortable being in such a submissive stance, which only made him want to wait longer before speaking, but he had broken the silence and there was no mending it now. The lass seemed almost startled at his words, making him wonder where her attention was, but she was soon letting lose a fake sigh at his apparent lack of headgear. Her retort caused him to snicker slightly; the absurdity of it all was obvious to an outsider but the two of them were having a grand ol’ time with this childish word play.
Eris’ second sting of words brought a question with them, landing somewhat unexpectantly on his sentries. He considered what she had asked, responses starting to form within his throat but he held them down. His back legs buckled gently below him, bringing the King to a seated position with such poise and dexterity as a female. His banner flicked up briefly before laying to rest at his flank. Finding no response that the brute liked, Serris simply gave a sly, knowing smile to the young lady, somehow sensing that this lack on information would be a source of irritation. It was well enough, though, that he said nothing at all, for his last question brought the girl to a complete stand still. The dark regal waited patiently, spheres darting here and there, absently taking in the state of the border, checking up on Aindreas who remained strangely silent behind them. He’d give the slightest of leans when the vixen’s maw would open, but every time they shut and he was back to bird watching.
An eyebrow lifted in her direction, prompting words ready to spill from his muzzle, when Eris finally gave a response. At least she was honest, and he respected that. What she didn’t know, though, was that her answer was probably the best that could’ve been given. Serris’ gaze strayed to the distance and stayed there and he pondered this fact. Sure, every Alpha expected a few members to join solely because they were in power, and being admired was no bad thing, take Aindreas. But it was often those who were inexplicably drawn to these borders that were the best for his pack. Fate was a cruel, tampering thing, but a thing not to be ignored.
“Those are always the best,” he murmured softly, neither to himself nor to his guest. His gaze returned to the lady only to find her own caramelized optics staring back. Eris held many emotions there, overflowing within those eyes of hers, amber oceans so deep they could swallow the weak of heart with one glance. He held her there for a moment, a slow blink filling the space that lagged between them, before releasing some lyrics to put her mind at ease. “Well, I suppose you should start looking before you become an old man like me.” He offered her a sincere smile before rising to all fours once again, turning in a tight circle and taking a step back towards his home to invite Eris to enter the pack.
