The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

Congratulations. One could call me a doctor, of sorts… but with your permission I would love to inspect your newborns. The brute was resistant to the unknown lupine’s offer to help, because he had supposed that Moth was going to check over the pups herself – the pups that were remaining at least, but the Alphess never entered the cavern. In addition to the two lupines who were now guarding the entrance of the den, Henadin felt overwhelmed with all of the strangers who were in close proximity to both his mate and his offspring. But as Channing spoke, beckoning forth the stranger to check on the health of their pups, the timbero quieted, trusting his mates feelings on the matter. Still, he pinned his auds and moved from Channing’s side so that if needed he would be able to protect her and the pups. The stranger remained calm and nonaggressive, so gradually he relaxed.

Macaria and Altair both stirred, yawning in unison as their mother’s bodice rumbled. The growl was short-lived, however. Macaria’s maw opened and started pushing around, trying to find a teat to latch onto. Just as her small black tongue curled around one, Altair pushed against her, trying to latch onto the same teat. After a small mew of protest, the faeling released the teat she was suckling on and moved to one next to it. Altair remained quiet as he suckled, the warm milk warming his tiny bodice quickly. He finished before Macaria did and crawled toward her, his nose trying to force its way under her body for the added warmth. For her part, Macaria didn’t cry or protest, merely finishing up her meal and then curling up, twisting her form around her brother’s until they were both comfortably fast asleep.

Night had fallen and the family had slept peacefully and without tragedy. No one had disturbed their sleep or entered the den, and when Henadin had opened his lids, he was gladdened to see that the three pups were healthy and happy. His tongue escaped from his maw to run over the three pups, gently stimulating the three of them until they woke and began to have their breakfast. Altair awoke and immediately began to wiggle, trying to get Macaria off of him. Though they were all still little, she equaled his weight and it was heavy upon his still petite form. The faeling woke slower then her brother but rolled over and off her brother. She realized that her little muzzle was at a teat and tried to nurse upside down with a little bit of success. Her father’s tongue gently ran over her and a content rumble came from her chest. Her tiny plumes began wiggle, shaking her bodice left to right until she was positioned correctly and continued her breakfast.

Altair also began to nurse, enjoying the warmth that was flowing down her throat and the warm form that ran roughly against his back. His back arched against it until it left him. He gulped down the milk and then tried to curl back up against his mother’s form. He encountered his brother and mimicked him, hiding his tiny form in his mother’s coat. Soon after, Macaria finished, clearly the slowest of the pups at feeding. That was when the brute realized that his love was most likely as well. Henadin nuzzled Channing gently before raising himself to his fours, readying himself to go for a hunt. But the sound of approaching pawfalls entered his auds and the brute hunkered down into a defensive position. A soft but deep voice echoed throughout the den. Saw Tooth wolves, I would like to speak with you. The brute prevented a growl from escaping from his chest – the Alpha had kept his word and had not injured them or even threatened them. Henadin stood up slowly and tried to relax – this was the moment he had been dreading all along – what was the price of hospitality in Abendrot.

We will listen. Your hospitality is greatly appreciated. It is the least we can do. Channing raised her own bodice and exited the den, leaving the pups alone. Henadin nuzzled each of the pups once lovingly before following his mate. The bright sunlight blinded him momentarily and his pupils constricted, his muddy orbs coming to lay upon the Alpha. He kept his plume relaxed, but his eyes focused upon the brute. He meant no disrespect, but whenever Henadin chose to speak, eye contact usually preluded it. “I thank you for all that you have done, and apologize for before. It was wrong and inappropriate of me. We are in your debt, and ask now what the price of that debt will be to repay.” His vocals were gruff and low, though no stutters occurred. Auds pricking forward, he awaited the Alpha’s reply.

*********************

Altair awoke suddenly a chill running across his form. He nudged against his brother, and then against his sister. Macaria mewed in protest but then moved her form forward, slowly crawling atop of her siblings, covering them with more body heat and warming herself with theirs in return.
