things go wrong no matter what I do

Bleu could see him coming towards her and she felt herself shying away. She felt guilty, like she was betraying Dexter. But then again, wasn't it him who betrayed her first?

And as that thought churned in her head, she took a step forward, her eyes settling on Arcus, as he stumbled through the tall grass. She winced as he fell forward but a smile replaced her grimace as he welcomed her with open arms. He was so unlike Dexter and yet so similar.

His skin met hers and his icy muzzle brushed her own, delightful shivers moving across her skin. In response to his inquiring, she hinted on what had been going on in her recently hectic but usually boring life. "Things are a lot more complicated now, that's for sure..." But by then, he was already moving and it took her a moment to catch his last words, as she was still recovering from the bursts of lightning.

It was one of her many fears. Except this wasn't an irrational fear because lightning could hurt you. Trembling beneath the dark skies, she could barely hear Arcus over the booming thunder. And as the sounds of the rain storm ceased, only to be brought up by a very annoyed voice.

Snickering, Bleu smiled as Arcus met her twinkling blue eyes. She felt calm, though her skin prickled with each bolt of lightning that struck the ground. Jolting, as another lightning bolt struck extremely close to the trio and she bit her tongue, too frightened to taste the coppery blood.

"I doubt anyone could sleep through this. It's unbearable." And as if to prove a point, her words were followed by a string of booming thunder. Skittish, Bleu yelped and took a few steps towards Arcus, as of he could somehow prevent the storm from continuing.

Huddling closer towards him, she murmured in his ear, the words rolling off her bloody tongue. "Dexter and I were going to have a child. Until he breed with every single mare besides me." Her voice was bitter but her emotions were in check, as the storm slowly dwindled into occasional thunder.

"So I left, though that wasn't why I chose to have you sire my first foal." By that point, her words were drifting into silence and she felt slightly embarrassed to speak a portion of the truth, she kept herself serious.

She should've continued on, telling him why she wanted him to be the father, but she didn't. Because she didn't know. She felt as if she had done it as an act of revenge but that was so immoral she couldn't imagine doing such a reckless thing.

It would've been so much more easier if she had succumbed to her hormones and go along with what the other mares had been doing. But unfortunately, she valued herself more than the other mares did and so she settled for a more complicated option.

Arcus.
