Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Meryl was well aware of her difficult home life, how her mother had been ill and the pack had been falling apart. He even heard of that challenge, well she had told him, when some wolf had tried to take her mother’s lands, but her father had fended the challenger off thankfully. Meryl frowned when she spoke, launching into how all of her family was too busy to know she was gone, how her mother was off out of the pack again, leaving her alone with her siblings. He knew what it was like to be without a mother, two times he had to go through that, it was terrible. The second time, somehow, it was worse than the first, when Andromeda had been taking by Iromar. At least, MoonGlow was safe and just in hiding while she recovered, from whatever it was she was recovering from. Meryl did not have those details to why she continuously went missing.

”I’m sorry, Ceal.” He said wondering for a moment if he should before hugging the pink-eyed girl. He pulled away after only a moment, then looked back down at the plant and bag. What was worse, he knew she needed to talk but he had his duty to Diveen, he had to collect herbs, which thankfully she brought up next, asking what he was doing out.

”I’m really busy… I don’t know if you heard, but Iromar has declared war on Diveen. I’m a healer, I got to get ready so I’m out here collecting as much as I can before they leave, and hopefully find more while they are gone too. Azrael, he is going off. My family is in bits worrying over him, but he has a duty being my Aunt Isola’s guard. He has to go, and I don’t think he would miss a chance to rip demons apart.” Nor would Meryl should he be bigger and stronger and older. He wasn’t though, he was small, just barely taller than Ceal was, and his brothers, a year old and both already taller than he was.

He felt so bad for having to not talk about her problems, but he had a lot of things to think about as well. He watched as she contemplated the aloe, he couldn’t help but let a little smile touch his maw for a moment as she worked out what the plant was. Aloe Vera. It took some time, it was clear she hadn’t had the time to train, or the teacher, to teach her as vigorously as Brooke had. For that he felt a little bad. If someone was there to teach her he was certain she would be excellent.

He gave a soft chuckle of amusement when she got it,”Yeah, it’s going to be very important for treating all the flesh wounds, but this isn’t enough, and if I pick more it won’t grow. I have to find more caches of it along the river… You want to help me, Ceal? I would like your company at least until you have to go back.” He couldn’t help but continue softly smiling at her, her energy certainly could take his mind off things. Hopefully she would make him feel better, at home, everyone else was equally upset and worried, they were no help, and though he wished to be there for Ceal, like he had been for the last few times they had met, he needed her this time.
