Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

He had a home now, but he still liked to wander. Nasty habit, drifting was. Sometimes it put you in the exact opposite place than the one you wanted to be. Heart would have liked to be in a temperate zone, one that could have warmed the icy layer that formed around his body. That’s what happened when you slept alone. Heart always slept alone, and maybe that was the problem. He just hadn’t been close to anyone. He’d met people. Heart would always meet people… but none of them stuck. It was like they were there one moment and gone the next, rolling on to something different. Something better he supposed. That happened often enough. He wouldn’t get offended… it would still roll off his back.

The creature still drifted. He drifted away from his den in the valley and made his way around. It always seemed like he ended up in the common lands. It was better that way… if he’d wound up in a packland they’d think he wanted to join. The truth was, he never really did want to join. He wanted to be a part of something, but a pack wasn’t it. It was a longing for company more than anything. He didn’t want to obligated to anyone. He didn’t want to be attached to anyone. He wanted to be able to pick up and walk away if that was really what needed to happen.

There didn’t seem to be anything like that available. That was why he wandered through the snow. It always seemed like it was snowing in this part of the world, but that could be the fact that the only time he showed up in the Fields was winter. That would have made more sense. For today, Heart was just another drifter at dusk. The creature was a bizarre thing, and maybe that’s why everyone stayed away. What a strange thing it was to look like a demon and not be one. What a strange thing it was to be a drifter at dusk.
