Can you hear the magpie?

It was safe to say that Alistair hated Thoth. It took a lot of self control for him not to punch him in the face and shut him up. Or even just "accidentally" bump into him on the stairs. Maybe have him slip on some black ice. It would be so easy. But instead he gave the boy as charming a smile as he could manage, but with an underlying tone of "I am resisting the urge to slam your head into a table" and just a dash of "if you don't shut up I will kill you." His glare shot daggers at the boy in addition. If Thoth hadn't felt the dislike iminating from him before, he definately would now.

The guards escorted him through the castle, each twist and turn leading them deeper in. "It's like a smaller version of the Maze." he said louder than he had meant to. Alethea spoke and he turned his attention to her. "Anyway. You're lucky. Shaman can be a dangerous place for travellers. But the King is kind and the castle is safe for those he mean no harm." Safe. It was safe until it wasn't. Nothing was ever really safe. The Glade had been "safe" and look where they had ended up. But Alistair said nothing, merely nodded. There was silence until the group reached the infirmary. It was not a bad thing.

When the woman walked up to them Alistair backed up a bit. He'd only ever been treated by the medjacks and they were all boys. But there was no use in fighting her as she ushered him over to a bed near by. Everything about the room made him feel out of place. It was very clean and white and pristine while Alistair was tanned and dirty. He stood out like a sore thumb here. Still, he sat on the bed, relaxing his rigid posture and letting his confident facade drop. His gaze shot over to the door. Thoth leaned against it and Alethea stood next to it. The young boy said something, but what it was Alistair could not make out. Whatever it was, Alethea replied and he made out a snippet of her response ".... Just met him..." before she lowered her voice to a whisper and he heard no more. He could discern that Thoth had said something about him, but what he was unsure of. It was tempting to yell out, "What did you say about me?" but he did not. Instead choosing to put his face in his hands, leaving his emotions open to interpretation as he couldn't quite tell what he felt. It was a mixture of feelings ranging from sadness to anger and everything inbetween. But as soon as the healer examined him it was pain.

Shoulder and arm aside, Alistair was not in horrible health. His torso, arms, and legs were covered in bruises and cuts. His feet, more so than his hands, were calloused. Perhaps the most obvious was the fact that his ribs were easy to count, but two weeks of little food and rationing would do that to you. By the end they had been going on a few bites a day. Not enough to feed a baby much less a teenage boy. It was the bruises that hurt the most when the healer tapped them. She didn't look at his shoulder first. Alistair assumed that she wanted to make sure he didn't have any other injuries first. The bruised gash on his rib from where a board had hit him just so happened to be the first thing she touched. "Y'ouch!" he yelped, leaping up and swatting at the woman's hand.
