Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

the boundaries which divide life from death
are at best shadowy and vague.
who shall say where the one ends,
and where the other begins?

Hymeshe hadn't scented the pup that had caught sight of him. A rare thing to ever happen to the massive loner. In his defense, the pup was downwind and if Hymeshe had been looking, he would've been sure not to miss the fluffy white child. What caught his attention was the crack in the ice. Whipping his head around swiftly, Hym drew himself to a standing position quickly. The white pup hadn't been paying attention and he was sliding into the icy water. The high pitch squeal of the wolf sent Hym into action. Bounding downstream towards the pup, he leapt into the freezing rapids, his thick coat instantly soaked, weighing him down.

Paddling up, Hymeshe broke the surface, snorting the water from his nostrils as he swam strongly towards the white blob bouncing in the water. The thought never crossed his mind why he was risking his own life to save a wolf he didn't know, perhaps it was the innocence of the child, perhaps Hymeshe did have feelings after all. Unfortunately, none of those thoughts were currently wandering his mind, all senses were focused on the pup being dragged downstream. Kicking out strongly, his icy eyes narrowed against the droplets of water that threatened his vision. The white blob was only a few feet away now just barely out of reach.

A growl began in his throat as he swam harder until the wolf was just in distance. Opening his massive jaws, he sank his teeth, quite savagely into the pups scruff, forgetting that the child was alive. Hymeshe didn't bite hard enough to break the skin, but it was quite possible to feel a bit of pain. Changing directions towards the shoreline, he prayed like hell the pup wouldn't flail about as he began to swim with the extra body weight. He could begin to feel the energy in his body drain slowly as the cold washed it away, and on top of that, the black boy hadn't slept in over two days.

Pushing his own tiredness away he let adrenaline take over his body as he kicked out against the water, letting the rapids pull him downstream as he made his way to the shore. Locking his jaw tightly around the pup's scruff, he looked down at the white blob for a moment before returning his gaze to the shoreline. Focused on getting the two to shore, for some odd reason, the loner refused to let go of the child to save his own skin, instead he paddled harder, until pebbles could be felt beneath his paws. Flexing his claws, he stood, slowly dragging the two wet wolves from the water, throwing the pup onto the snowy ground, but far enough away from the river.

Shaking his own pelt to rid the heaviness, he could feel the weariness in his limbs. Ruffling out his fur again, he whipped around to the pup, a snarl curling his lips. "What the hell were you thinking?! You're but a pup, crossing the frozen river when spring is well on it's way!" His deep voice growled angrily, hackles raised in rage as he gazed at the half dead pup before him.
