aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Kohaku. A lads name as her gender had been misinterpreted as a firstborn child. Daughter to Hell's most feared demon and Heaven's healer that betrayed a vow and had her wings ripped from her back-- all for the sake of what she called "love." Amber orbs bestowed by the God Fenris. White cloak for purity and a singe of orange to invite the elements of enlightenment. Calm, quiet, thoughtful. Kohaku was deemed a wise wolf. But here, staring blankly out into the neutral lands... She was but a fucking fool. Her heart was in the grasp of Nikandros, and Nikandros's mind had been fooled by the smooth words of a King, seduced by revenge. And here she was, learning things she had never been taught, absorbing new information and converting it into tactics that could be used later in life. But late at night, when this mentor and King of hers was not watching... She went as far as her bonds would allow her... And she would stare out into the blank space of night. Every varg had been given the ability to see in the dark. It was a gift from Tor herself, yet Kohaku had always struggled with seeing the shapes called shadows. There was a new moon on this night, so darkness surrounded the pale being. Trapped she was. Trapped within her own mistake. And she would probably never be able to even begin forgiving herself for this one. Koh hardly ever made mistakes; but it seemed that when she did, they were quite noticeable and very difficult to overcome. Just like the feelings running around inside of her heart... Kohaku winced and shivered as a soft gale whistled quickly beside her, danced with her cloak, and then disappeared elsewhere. But her mind could not be kept from troubling thoughts. Horrible dreams had been pursuing her as of late... So these nightly excursions had become more of a necessary ritual than a onetime deal.

Often Kohaku used this time to find weakness inside the borders. For one thing, there were not many wolves that were a part of Aurora Borealis. But those that were... They were tough and hardy. Kalgalath had a female that was close to his heart-- Zig. This information had been gathered quite easily through just observation and mild eavesdropping though Kohaku had not meant to overhear the conversation in the first place. She had been in the same area at the same time as the one who let it slip through their jowls. Foolish being. Though Kohaku herself had made a vow to the King... She detested him as well as acknowledged and admired him as a leader. He was more active than Queens ever would be... But his heart had faults despite its strength. He may have saved her but he put her in shackles as well. She was not to go outside the parklands. She was not to converse with anyone besides the monarch himself, no matter the circumstance and she was to be silent unless asked a direct question. Patience was something that he was reteaching her. And now, sitting at the edges of these hellish borders... She practiced the lesson without even knowing. She was here not only because she could taste the wind... Feel on her cloak the falling stars that so often tumbled to the ground and shot up little sparks of desire... But she found that this was the most open area that had the best chance of seeing anyone that might come close to the territory. The ermine weaseled her way through bushes, under large tree roots and over ditches to be here. She prowled the borders endlessly... A ghost maiden. The last of her kind. Fenrir had disappeared, Scarface had been turned to dust and her dear mother was one of those stars that shone the brightest in the night sky. Kohaku was, in a way, a unicorn. Alone. The idea that this bothered her struck her as an entertaining thought. He solitude had never bothered her before... But those eyes haunted her every move. Those hurt, confused and rage-filled oceanic portals could not be wiped from her minds eye. They were the cause of her nightmares recently. Kohaku moved to the left, her head align with her shoulders.

She had grown in musculature within the past two weeks. It was a dramatic change to her feminine silhouette that she had boasted before. Though she didn't mind the change itself, she did not appreciate that from whom it came from. Kalgalath. Once again, mixed feelings turned in her skull. She turned on her heel after half a mile and came back to the opening where the angel could view the outside world away from her bars. She wanted him here. If she could run past these lines without alerting a sentry... By the gods she would. She-- a bullet shot through her head. No. She wouldn't. She froze. She wouldn't move from these borders if she was given the freedom to. Kalgalaths rage was one thing. Nikandros's safety another. But the malice that Nikandros held within him... If he held that against HER then.. She did not wish to move one step from where she was now. Kohaku stared, unblinking into the dark atmosphere, her audettes pricked to attention. Alert. Would he... Attempt to assassinate her? Kohaku's mouth dried and a bile filled the back of her throat. She felt sick. And that leads us to another fact. Kohaku has not been eating right during her stay here. Every meal is forced down the lady's throat. Kalgalath probably knows nothing of this... But when she is not at her "training" Kohaku is watching others. Areas that they avoid, areas they spend the most time in. Every piece of information is stored within her brain... And as a healer taught by her late mother, Kohaku knows where the plants are that are not to be ingested by wolves or any other living thing. And she has come too close to these four times so far after stumbling upon them the first day of her arrival and the last time she saw Nikandros. But she had not touched them... And she would not until Nikandros knew just what was going on. There was no need for war. There was no need for him to behave the way he... No. Kohaku would have done the same thing if Llorana had been the one to rightfully claim the dark prince. She would have felt disaster and chaos creeping into her heart like some unknown drug. Something that her system had never experienced before. She would have felt betrayed by the man.

And that was exactly how every night for the past two weeks had been. Every single fucking night. And Kohaku had only been able to get a minimal amount of sleep during the day… that sleep was precious to her… but it was so troubled that she didn’t know what to do with it. When she was awake, her heart screamed at her betrayal of the prince who spread himself for her. He who had shown her the most tender of things… his own heart. But Kohaku had been foolish. She had run away from it. And everything was a hell to her now. Her head hurt. Horribly. Days without sleep did not help with this. But Kalgalath's expression when Kohaku had shared her knowledge of the pack members with him. It sent a spark of pride stumbling through her hollow innards to know that that was something he had not expected to hear. Something he had not anticipated of her. Kohaku had stared, blank-faced at the peppered male with her cold suns. Cold. Cold because the warmth that had once echoed inside of them had been sapped away from her, along with her strength. But there now was a different kind of strength. Something completely and utterly new to her. Something Kohaku had never experienced before. She actually felt... worthy of this life. But this would send another jolt through her as Nikandros was the only one who made her feel truly alive. Around him, she couldn't remember if the sun rose from the east or the west... She could not recall her own name when gazing into those eyes... and she had thought that she could live without him. Hah. A voice pierced through her thoughts. Immediately, her eyes snapped open and her head raised itself from where it had been resting upon her virgin paws. That was... her portals hardened visibly. That was him. Not the one that she wanted to hear from... Not the one she wanted to see... but at least someone was calling for her. She immediately took off, the dark circles under her eyes the only physically visible hint to her lack of sleep. She was getting stronger. And if Kalgalath did not know how to handle her, then she would be dangerous as well. Damsels held against their will are quite troublesome, especially when they decide to save themselves and not wait for a prince in shining armor, or a loser in tin foil.

Kalgalath was not waiting for her when she reached the area where he had been. But a flicker of movement off to the side and she was after it, cutting through trees, under fallen logs, pushing through thorns and thistles. Eventually she was walking parellel to the King. Though he stepped like a lady should, or perhaps the mythical one horned beast, Kohaku knew that each step was thought out. Careful. She herself mirrored this and when the foliage between the two broke, she was there, in his path, like a ghost. Kalgalath should know that he was not mentoring a woman. He was reteaching a spirit. A demon of sorts.

When the fruit of sin becomes completely rotted... They can meet again... until then...
