Announcements as of July 28, 2021

I have called you, and you have answered my call --

Do not mistake my silence for weakness, my forest kin. For I am willing to defend you with my fangs and claws, until the days come when am no longer able to. Keep an eye on the borders for Zelda and her sister Midna, because I will welcome them back into the flock on the day of their return.

The flood has left our forest home in a sorry state of disarray. I shall not tolerate this. Summer is here and we must rebuild our dens in time for winter. There is a lot of hard and dirty work ahead of us. But we shall face it together, as family, as a pack. Let's get back to work and then we shall hunt. I hunger for a feast.

From your new Alpha --

Moonshade, the Gravekeeper of Moladion

Roamin, as ever, was a blur of crimson and cream, darting around them even after she and Sen stopped to wait for Coszcotl. She watched him with warm eyes, that characteristic half-smile tinting her features, as he rolled in the grass, staining his fur with late-summer green. She resisted the urge to pull him to her and see to his cleanliness; for now, at least, he could have his fun. There would be plenty of time for baths later. Mireille called out to him from her side, expertly playing her part as the older sister. Not that he was listening: he was immediately off again, this time into the trees ahead of them.

Hush smiled down at her daughter; Mireille was anxiously following Roamin’s noisy explorations with her lavender eyes, waiting for the word to stay or go. “Go on,” she said quietly. “But stay close. Coszcotl will be here soon.” She was excited for him to meet the children, and wasn’t looking forward to explaining Reian’s absence. When it came to keeping tabs on babies, her track record wasn’t getting any better. And Coza had a certain…fierceness about little ones. She watched Mireille bound away, noting with pride the grace in her young strides, and thought that she was certain to grow into a glorious creature one day. It would be smart to keep her close as she grew, safe from prying eyes and anyone who might take it upon themselves to taint her youth.

Sen?” He had stiffened at her side, hackles rising as his eyes fell on something he didn’t like. Was Reian hurt? She turned to see what had him distressed, and there he was. Running at her, calling for her, as she had never dared to hope he would. “Mama?!” His keening voice pierced her heart. She was up in a flash, a breathy gasp catching in her throat as he hit the ground at her paws. “KELLIN!!” she screamed it, a foreign strangled sound, the name she had barely been able to think for over a year. He scrambled along the ground around her feet, and she so needed to have him close; Hush dropped to her stomach to meet him face to face, digging her muzzle into the fur of his cheeks, licking his ears. She crawled forward, closer, and laid her head across the back of his neck, quivering against him as she struggled to calm them both.

You’re alive,” she said finally, quietly, just for him. “You’re home. You’re safe.” She breathed him in, relearning him. He had died in her mind. She had spent all this time trying to forget, trying not to think of his face, or his tiny voice. But he’d never really gone. And now his warmth radiated into hers and it was amazing. She rose when she could do so without shaking, nudging Kellin’s chin to suggest that he should, too. She wanted to really see him, as motherhood demanded. What stood in front of her was terrifying all over again – his perfect little body was incredibly thin, and there were thin patches in his fur where she suspected scars could be found. What could he have gone through to get here today? That was a question for another time.

Her focus expanded again, and the blurs around her became other living creatures. Sen stood to the side, watching with anxiety in his face; he had worried for Kellin, too. His loss was a grief they experienced together. She looked from one to the other, hoping that Kellin could remember, certain that Sen was hoping for a reunion but waiting for the boy to make the first move. The quiet between the three of them was broken by Coszcotl’s well-timed appearance, calling out to the family at large as he approached. “Coza!” she replied, relief sweeping across her face as she moved forward to greet him, offering him a waving tail and a nuzzle to his chin. It didn’t occur to her to prostrate before him. Between their long-standing friendship and everything that was going on it seemed a strange idea. “We came as soon as we heard. Congratulations!

He seemed disconcerted, having obviously noticed the oldest of the pups and his physical state. They had never told him about Kellin’s disappearance, but that could be saved for another time. She turned an eye on each of the pups in turn, accounting for all but Reian who still hadn’t caught up with them. “These are our children: Roamin, Mireille, and Kellin, our oldest.” It was so good to say his name. Her smile widened and she reclaimed her place at Sen’s side, their shoulders touching; she couldn’t keep her eyes off Kellin, though, and motioned that he should sit on her other side, if that was something he wanted. She feared that he was a phantom, bound to disappear at any moment.

Sen and I would like to join you here in Taviora, with our children, of course. And Kellin, if he chooses.” Despite her attempt at normalcy, it didn’t feel right to group him in with the other little ones, who had no choice but to follow their parents. Kellin had been gone so long – maybe he wanted his space. She wanted him to stay so badly that it was almost an audible noise, but he could have his choice. But she wanted to see to his health; he looked so hungry. So wild. She could hardly bear it if he reappeared today only to vanish again tomorrow.

( Mireille’s part will be edited in later, but the next person in line can begin replying to Hush’s post if you want. Our store got broken into last night, so I never got a chance to start on her part! >.< )

THE FOREST RANKS

THE GRAVEKEEPER

The Alpha Male of Taviora. He will accept all challenges and block any steals. He has taken an oath to protect all within the forest, alive and dead.

THE KEEPER OF SECRETS

This will be Moonshade's chosen co-alpha. They will also be able to accept challanges and steals in order to defend Taviora.

THE KEEPER OF TRUTHS

This rank will belong to the chosen heir of Taviora. This wolf will probably share Moonshade's blood. This rank can be challenged for if you believe that you are a better candidate for the job.

THE FOREST COUNCIL

Although the Alpha's have the final say in all matters, Taviora is still a pack, we are still a community. These wolves are the most senior members of our ranks. Their role is to guide, serve and protect. All of them have earned their place here and they should be respected at all times. Every position on the council can be challanged for by a subordinate pack member. However the council has the right to block a pack member from gaining the position if they have concluded that the individual has placed their own selfish desires before the best interest of the pack as a whole.

THE TUSKS

The packs lead fighter. One of the strongest and bravest in our ranks. They will answer the call to protect the forest if either of the Alpha's are absent.

THE JAWS

The packs head of defence. They are our chief hunter and guardian to all within the forest borders. They know every inch of Taviora and every wolf within.

THE HORNS

The packs most senior teacher. They are responsible for teaching and guiding all of our young and new members so that they will reach their full potential.

THE EYES

The packs trusted informant. This wolf spends a lot of their time outside the forest borders, keeping their eyes, ears and nose peeled for news or potential trouble. Due to the secretive and dangerous nature of this rank, only a wolf that the pack can trust with their lives will obtain this responsibility.

THE DARKDWELLER

This is Taviora’s Head Healer. This wolf is responsible for treating the pack's wounds, injuries and illnesses. They are also expected to be one of the first on scene when a mother goes into labour. Along with their counterpart, The Soothsayer, they will train future healers for the service of our pack and our allies.

THE SOOTHSAYER

This is Taviora’s Head Counselor. Their knowledge of healing and herbal remedies are equal to that of their counterpart, The Darkdweller. This wolf specializes in helping us conquer the unseen demons in our heads and our hearts. They are also expected to help bring all children of the forest safely into this world.

NIGHTWATCHERS

Our trusted packmates that guard the borders while the rest of us sleep safely in our dens. If something is amiss within our lands, they should be the first to intercept any threat and call for back up when needed. Some might not call themselves soldiers, but they will spill blood if push comes to shove.

DAWNSTRIDERS

The most diligent and selfless of our pack. They are up at first light and leave our inner sanctum every few days in search of prey. They hunt far and wide in order to make sure none of us go hungry. While not out hunting, they are free to relax or assist the Nightwatchers, Daylightres or Dawnstriders with their tasks.

DAYLIGHTERS

This group will make up the bulk of our pack, they are our beloved family. They are generalists and commoners who are charged with looking after the most central and sacred parts of our home. Along with The Horns, they are expected to watch out for our children. We are happy to keep all within our ranks that love and respect the forest of Taviora.

DUSKWALKERS

Rumoured to be the most free spirited and independent members of our pack, they guard when no other eyes are available. They wander down all the winding dirt paths and have been known to explore into the freelands. They are envoys and ambassadors who assist The Eyes with their duty of keeping us all safe.

ANCIENT PINES

These wolves are older and have retired from active service. We thank them for all that they have done for our pack, however long or short their tenor was. They shall live out the rest of their years with the best food, shelter and company we can offer them.

THE BRIAR PATCH

This is the name for Taviora’s nursing mothers and their litters of puppies. Once they are born, at least one parent is expected to temporarily step down from their role in order to raise their pups for the first 6 months of their lives. An exemption can be made if another mother is willing to look after the young while the parents resume their service to the pack.

THE SAPLINGS

Too big for the briar patch but not yet old enough to be called a daylighter. These are all puppies between the age of 1 and 3. Pups can start their training from 2 and above if The Horns has found a suitable Mentor for them.

THE WELCOMED

These wolves are welcome within our borders anytime of the day or night. Blocking their access will be met with disapproval and possible punishment.

THE BANISHED

They are enemies of our pack and their presence will not be tolerated within or near our home. Those caught in contact with a wolf on this list will likely share the same fate.

THE SACRED TOMBS

Our brothers and sisters that have sadly left us for their next adventures. We give thanks for their lives and we send them on with all our love, hopes and dreams. Moonshade will accept the bones of any wolf that has ever called Taviora their home and will find them a special place within our hallowed grounds. Every burial mound is individual and sacred. Tampering or messing with one will not be tolerated. A crime against the dead will be treated as though it has been committed against a living pack member.

Remember, we are always watching from the shadows ...
