The boy glanced around awkwardly at the creatures dotted along the riverbanks, letting his light green eyes rest on one of them. He watched as their paw snatched out into the river and brought a fish up out of it, flicking the prey into their mouth. His gaze now hesitantly moved back towards the river. He briefly pondered on how here, out of all places, the water was not frozen over. Not yet. The temperature was, or felt, below zero degrees, so he was surprised at the fact the creatures could still fish. Nevertheless, he sighed and focussed on the water.

It wasn't long before a silver shape flashed by, but he flicked his paw out too slowly and the fish swam right on by, barely fazed by the uncertain death it could have faced. He groaned in frustration and glared at the moving water, before regaining himself and concentrating on the figures zooming by. His ears slicked back against his skull, his eyes slitted, his whole body tense, Ace watched the liquid and the beings inside of it.

For a long while he sat there. He had only agreed with himself to try this because bigger prey was a lot harder to catch generally, especially in the winter months, and even though Traydon would most likely freeze over soon, the adolescent had to try to find food.

Ace shook his head and rolled his eyes. He must not lose concentration, right? He widened his eyes and almost frantically flashed out a paw, felt it connect with something, and attempted to flick the fish out of the water. But, no, it still didn't work. He growled in frustration and sat back, staring up at the grey-clouded sky.
