aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

As Kalgalath nudged me away from our pack, I nearly hesitated. Part of me wanted to go with him right away, of course. But another part was desperate to stay with King Kong, knowing he wasn't okay. No, I would let the boy have some time to himself, I would go with my mate as I should. It would do both Kal and I some good to have time alone together finally. The peace and quiet that enveloped us as we put distance between the pack and ourselves, was admittedly soothing. His unsteady pace did not go unnoticed by me and every so often, I brushed my pelt against his. My way of silently letting him know that I was here if he needed someone to lean on. As his trembles of exhaustion gave way to shivers of cold, I couldn't help the glances of concern I found myself frequently shooting his way.

I couldn't stifle the giggle as I watched Kal interact with the falling ice crystals. It was darling, really. I stuck out my own tongue catch my very own snowflake, waiting for it to instantly melt with the heat of my mouth. My ambers followed his icy orbs to the sky, the impending storm obvious. The signs had been accumulating for days now. The cold had never been very welcome to me yet it still failed to particularly bother me. I brushed against Kal again, this time a slight reassurance. No matter what mother nature threw our way, this pack could handle it.

I laughed along with my love as he skidded clumsily across the frozen river, nearly falling. Then, with a slight smirk, I threw my petite bodice across the ice, elegantly gliding across it. For a moment, I was worried about a less-than-graceful landing on the bank, but my paws managed to catch the snow just right. I took my time entering our den, welcoming the comb of the pine needles upon their branches through my brown mottled pelt. When I did pad in, his eyes were on me, his smile bright. And for a moment I felt like we were just meeting for the first time again as I dropped my gaze and blushed furiously.

I glanced up at him again, a shy schoolgirl, as I curled up at his paws. I waited to feel his large frame surround me, making me feel safe. His low tones touched my ears and felt like coming home. A purr-like sound resonated in my chest. My ambers slid closed as his touch sent waves through my bodice. This was home.
