News 08.08.2021
Change was long overdue in Spirane. Now that I have learned who is still an active presence within the pack, the ranks have been updated. As I once took time away from the pack, so too now shall Kalseru. Know that she is still second in command of the pack, as is reflected in her rank. Once you are familiar with the new ranking system, if you would like to change positions or move up in the ranks you need only ask. Let this be a time of new life in Spirane, and a promise of great things to come!

When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies, but the pack survives.

I don't know Taliesin that well but he impressed me on the last Spirane hunt. He was brave when it really counted and he never gave up. That's to be respected, admired even. Curiosity flows through me. Is he just calling to talk or is there a more specific motive? I've never been much of a social butterfly but maybe this won't be so bad. Laila's not much for conversation right now, what with being sick. I think she's come down with a bug or something. She's been complaining about her stomach and hardly eating when I bring her food. I just hope it works its way through her system soon.

Taliesin's bright mahogany fur is easy to spot. Like me, he's not the biggest wolf in the pack but he's a little bigger than me. He's built for speed like I am, more agile than tough but he showed his tough bone in that pack hunt and I won't easily forget that. He's much younger than I am but age makes no difference. he dips his head to me as I arrive, a gesture that I return instantly. My lips tug into a friendly smile, my tail waving behind me. My ears tilt forward attentively, ready as always to listen. His eyes are a bright moss green that draws my own golden gaze easily.

He calls me sir and I feel my eyes twinkle with amusement. I'm sir now? He tells me that he just wanted to talk to me, that he felt like he should get to know me. He wants to hear tales? Oh boy, where would I begin? With Ghost and how she stalked me for over a year, tormenting me, waiting for me to make one wrong move so she can off me? Or should I skip to how I joined Solevion and Boneclaw's kindness made me stay? Or perhaps to the best part, where I found Laila and my soul sang with joy to find its twin. There's so much to tell, but I've never felt the need to share it.

Would he want to know about the biggest part, the meteor storm? My lips falter. That's the worst part. I was a coward. I ran when I should have been there for her. I left her to raise our first litter alone. I was lower than dirt and I felt every inch of it. I part my lips, trying to find words, trying to hide the flicker of pain from his gaze when I think about that dark time.

"I can hardly say I've got tales to keep you listening, Taliesin, but I guess I can try. I was here in Old Moladian, before the meteors. I was mostly a wanderer then, a wolf without a pack. I grew up in a family of loners, hardly a family at all. I was used to moving on, never settling down. It's hard even now to admit that I only went to Solevion, the mountain pack, led by Moonglow's mother Boneclaw at the time, out of the need for protection, for sanctuary. I met a wolf named Ghost. At first, she was intriguing to me. She was careless, living her life on the edge and not caring what anyone thought. I admired her, wished I could be more like that. But then she started turning our conversations into more of a game, a game that turned twisted and deadly. She would circle me like a vulture, taunting me, wanting me to insult her, to give her any kind of bone to set her off. She wanted to hunt me like a prey animal.

"One day she got her wish. I said it without thinking. I don't even remember what I said now but it was a reflex and I immediately regretted it. The change in her eyes was instantenous. Suddenly she was ready to kill and I was the target. I made to run but she was faster, cutting off my escape. I thought I was done, over with, but then he showed up. A black wolf with golden eyes. I learned later that his name was King Kong. He got in between us and took on Ghost. I didn't stick around long enough to see what happened next. I ran, like a coward.

"You see, that's all I really am, Taliesin, a coward. I run when things get tough. I'm not the wolf you want to get to know, the wolf with grand stories to tell. I'm a coward, a survivor. The more you hear from me, the more you'll understand that."

My smile si bitter and sad, my eyes full of shame. I'm not a role model, definitely not someone to sing about. Laila is my reason for living now. She makes me feel like a better wolf, like someone who can protect her. She makes me feel like the wolf I want to be.
