Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Let fate decide

The current is strong against my body. The tree that holds me in place seems strong enough to withstand it, but I still do not know what to do. I cannot stay here forever. The water is an unpleasant thing right now. It is making me tired with its constant pushing. My ice blue eyes look at the world around me, only seeing water and debris everywhere. What can I possibly do but try to swim with the water? Where will it take me? What if I get too weak and...drown? I feel my body begin to shake, worry covering my features as I whine to myself.

I was about to let my form drift off into the water when I see something odd. It was a white figure, touched with gold and brushed with red. I know that look anywhere in the world. It is my good friend, Achilles. I find my heart fluttering, or maybe that is just my heart beating so fast from the stress of the situation. I watch as he jumps skillfully, and then a torrent of water washed over my whole face. I push against the tree, my flaming form quelled as I thrust my creamy muzzle up to gasp for air once more. By the time I am recovered from that one burst of water, Achilles was already on his way over to me.

I admit I was happy to see him. He was always a comforting presence in my life, someone I could count on. Yet I worry now that he comes to me. I worry that he will get tried and drown from the strength of the water with me. I do not want to put him in harms way, and yet maybe together, we can find a way out of this.

I manage to hear all of his words through the sound of crashing water, the colors of his voice something that I seek in times of distress. I nod at his words, my eyes of ice blue gazing upon him though they are flooded with worry, and I must admit, fear.

I was about to speak, when my eye catches something coming towards us. A large tree that got taken with the water. I find my eyes opening wide, like orbs of winter during a frosty storm. I knew we had to move from the comfort of our supporting tree, or we would be crushed.

"Achilles, move!" I manage to say, my form rushing forward with all of its strength in an attempt to push him out of harms way. Yet it is myself that would pay for such an act, and act that I cannot stop myself from doing. I want him safe, and it is my fault he is here. As I go to push him away, debris from the large tree smashes into my side, forcing the wind out of my lungs. I had not been crushed, I do not think...I do not truly know, because I the world seems to spin. I feel a panic as I simply try to keep my head over water, gasping for air but getting half water. My paws frantically attempt to swim, but the hit has completely frazzled my senses. I am being dragged away by the water, and I am more scared now than ever before because I cannot seem to get my bearings, not to mention, there is a pain on my side that I have never felt before, and...I hope I do not fade into sleep, as I am feeling like doing in this very moment...
