The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

All Men Should Keep Their Word, Kings Most of All

_________________________________________________________________________

The grey titan had been circling the borders of his territory, keeping an eye on things, looking out for strangers or anyone that could be a threat to his pack. He still felt like he needed to prove himself to his pack, to Kershov, his alpha, and to himself most of all. The brute trusted Kershov already, and he assumed that there had to be some sort of trust that Ker had in Grey Wind if he had already given a rank to the new member. He doubted that he had the trust of his packmates though, and who could blame them? Who would trust a lupine that had only recently joined their pack, yet already had a rank? He needed to show them all that he could be trusted and would become a valued member of the pack.

The brute happened to be in a decent mood for once, the first time he had been in a good mood since losing his mentor. He finally had a home, for the first time in a very long time he felt safe. He may not have any friends at the moment, but that was alright with him, he did not rely on the company of others to be happy. He had become friendly with the femme known as Aerten, but was she a friend? He did not know what he thought of her. He knew he had grown attracted to her, but was that just the lust from his loins that he felt? He could not be sure, but all he knew was that he longed for the pleasures that only a female could bring a male, but he was not sure if he wanted a mate.

While Grey Wind was lost in his own thoughts a foreign scent reached his nares. He raised his nose to the air, pinpointing where the scent was coming from and leapt off to investigate this stranger. The brute saw a dark colored male coming through the trees, but Grey Wind stayed hidden for a moment, waiting to see what the stranger would do. He hoped for the foreigner’s sake that he did not attempt to pass the borders of the deadly pack, but he wondered if he was here for a purpose. The strange male stopped a few feet from the border and then let out a howl, to alert the lupines within of his whereabouts. At least this male isn’t stupid, Grey Wind thought to himself, he has the smarts to call to someone before entering our territory.

Grey Wind came out from his hiding spot in the trees, not as hostile as he usually was with newcomers, but still wary of this male’s presence. The large grey brute sat a few feet away from the border as well, alert to see what this stranger wanted. ”My name is Grey Wind, co-captain of the soldiers of these lands. What is your purpose with Abendrot?” He spoke briefly and to the point, he was not a wolf of many words.
