Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

goes the clock, we laughed at fate and mourned her, tick tock goes the clock even for the monster

It wasn’t every day one happily traveled so through the flooded damaged lands. Okay so, happy was an understatement. Leave it to her stomach to guide her to the overflown river. Sure she would claim that she only came to these wetlands out of curiosity, after all it had been some time since she had seen the devastation after a flood, but really her stomach was telling her it was time to eat fish. One can only eat rabbits, mice, voles, squirrels, raccoons, and other silly chattering woodland creatures for so long. The tender flesh of fish was exactly what she was craving. Sleek ebony frame seemed to hobble over some of the fallen trees that had been uprooted by the powerful current from the cobalt blue stream. Silver tipped radars would swivel back and forth atop her obsidian cranium, the lightning’s rays barely catching that grey diamond shaped patch that spread over her forehead from the thick tree branches above. Massive paws left barely a paw print in the damp soil moving quite swiftly over the flooded terrain. The water had somewhat been receding back to the riverside on this side of the area, which meant, food was nearby! Lifting her head upwards she heard a crack and noticed that some of the trees above her looked awfully odd, their broken branches seemed to entwine with one another. That cracking snap echoed again and this time she came to a full stop studying the side of one tree where she noticed how one heavy thick branch was breaking apart and the limbs above her trembling from the loss of support. Giving a soft yelp she ran quickly away from the thundering sound of tree branches falling behind her. Little did the poor girl know that by running, without properly looking where she was going, she was heading down the damp side of a hill where the old Angel wolf and poor half-starved son were speaking in some sort of poor fashioned den.

Slowing herself down allowing her lithe frame to have some sort of stopping point on the side of the damp hill her radars stood on end as that foul smell of mountain lion caught her attention. Wearily she turned her skull back and forth catching on to that firm scent, indigo eyes, speckled with amethyst, narrowed at the sight of a rather old cougar stalking towards some sort of prey. Carefully, she continued down the slope curious to see just what exactly he was thinking of preying on this fine rainy day. She was a loner, never been a member of a pack, but seeing two wolves in the crossfire apparently had some sort of hold on her. Low rumbling snarl bellowed from her gut as her ebony fur bristled, hackles rose as she felt her form tremble from pent up anger. Instincts must have kicked in by this point. Never did she consider saving any of her kind, it was killed or be killed, but perhaps it was the simply utter disdain that canines had with felines- she didn’t want a kitty cat to win this fight. Not caring to know who these foolish wolves were she crept down the slope matching the cougar’s stealth trying to time herself just right as she neared the side entrance of the cave. The lame old cougar was much more interested on the two targets it saw standing out in the light drizzle without a damn care in their world that their life may or may not be in grave danger.

Hastily she started her run as a thunderous growl unleashed from her exposed jowls as she aimed for the cougar’s midsection, leaping towards it as the cougar made its swiping attempt at the younger wolf. She felt her claws slamming into the cougar’s shoulder pivoting him off his lame leg and his failed attempt to attack the young wolf, but as her jaw clamped down at its neck she felt its powerful claws tear through the right side of her face. Holding her grip down tighter, and failing her head back and forth ripping the piece of his neck, her vision blurred by blood and her ears deafening from the cougar’s yowl of anguish and pain. Feeling her jaw grip loosening, if only slightly, she flung her head to the side letting go as she allowed the cougar to throw her back, paws landing and sliding her frame along the damp ground. Shaking her head to get rid of the pain she felt an odd sensation of wind in the right side of her lips, slightly puzzled she continued shaking her head trying to get the blood out of her eyes. One long pink tongue streaked her right side of the face feeling the damage the cat’s claws had made, surely once it healed the claw marks would match the faded marks that covered the left side of her face, but these new claw marks shredded her right face. Wincing slightly from the pain she blinked a few times keep herself poised and ready to go when really she was ready to turn her head into the water and get attempt to numb the painful sensation, her mind focused on the pain as instincts were telling her to flee than fight. Yet pride would win over instincts for now. The poor loner was deformed yet again, and sadly, she didn’t care for her appearance. Stepping forward towards the cougar she continued standing in a defensive manner as that low snarl crawled out from her throat quite ready to attack the cougar with not only a lame left leg and damaged pride, but a clawed up shoulder and a half bitten in neck. The age old echt fight of canine vs. feline was once again being played out.
