The art of love is largely the art of persistence

Skylar had known there would be consequence for the words she had spoken. It had probably even sounded a little selfish to someone who did not know their full story. But the mare did not think upon these things, her emotions running too wild now for her to think of much at all before speaking. And just like before the longer he talked the more her anger grew to a point she no longer understood why she was even here. But Lyden was not done and slowly his words changed to something Skylar had not known before. The source of the problem had finally surfaced like an ugly festering head.

Silence fell between them as thick and as heavy as lead making it hard to breath for the tension that hung between them. Skylar was unsure what to think, what to say or do. She had never been presented with this problem and in truth she had never been presented with any of these problems. Lyden was the one and only stallion despite her father and whether she acted like it or not she did care for the man even if he did act ignorant in her opinion most of the time. The mare was summing it up to be a man thing though as she had thought the same things about her father. But she knew the vulnerability was real that she saw before her now and even though she was still angry, the mare could not reach out and place salt in the open wound he exposed to her.

“Lyden….” Still unsure what to say, her voice is quiet and has a strange softness to it. It is obvious she is unsure now. He was correct that it does not excuse his behavior but she does understand it better, allowing the mare to try and think upon it differently now. “I would not have thought you stupid for admitting to your faults despite you thinking that you should already know these things” the mare said as she turns to full face him now. “Instead I think it is silly that you didn’t, that you let it sit between us and drive us apart like it has.” Truth, Skylar wasn’t sure what else she could say. It wasn’t always the easier, but it was always the clearest despite it being as clear as mud when trying to find.

“I only had a father when I was growing up, and although I was grateful to at least have one parent he was full of darkness too. I had to learn softness on my own, it was something I had to reach down in to find. So easily I could have been plagued with the dark disease that riddled his mind that had consumed him until he was nothing but a beast.” Slowly the mare stepped forward, closer to the stallion and reached her muzzle out to brush his neck with her soft lips. “I can help you with the things you don’t understand, I can help guide you to the stallion you already are and just don’t know it yet.” It was then she raised her head so that she could look into those blue eyes of his. “But you can’t hide away anymore or shut me out. You have to let me in or let me go.”
