_________________________________________________________________________ As the pair ran side by side away from the dangers of the tornado Summer kept sneaking glances at Cora, making sure she was still by his side and alright, not wanting to let her get lost behind him. Even though he had just met the pretty ess he wanted to protect her, to look after her, the thought came naturally to Summer. Concern filled his yellow orbs as he looked at her, not wanting anything to hurt her. He could feel her pelt brush against his as they ran, getting closer together at times when the trees became thicker, never stopping their quick pace to safety. He felt his skin prickle and warm where he felt her fur brush against him, but he could not focus on that now, he had to focus on getting her to safety. The pair ran together, never slowing their stride as brambles and branches caught in their pelt. It did not take them long to reach the cavern, leaping into the darkness. Water splashed on their pelts as they stepped through puddles, heading deeper into the darkness to reach safety. Summer stayed by Cora’s side, wanting to make sure she was truly safe and uninjured. The creamy ess spoke first, asking how Summer was before he had a chance to check on her. He answered immediately, glad that he was uninjured, but worries that Cora may be. The brute could care less how he was, his only concern at the moment was to make sure that the female by his side was safe from harm. When he asked how she was it took her a moment to respond and Summer was worried that she was injured and a concerned whine escaped his throat as he became anxious in her delay. She finally answered, putting his worries to rest, “Yes, yes. Now I am. Yes.” He breathed a sigh of relief, glad that she was alright after the horrific ordeal. She continued to speak after a moment’s pause, “Thank you. Seriously, though. Thanks. I appreciate you stepping in. I would have fallen apart at the seams and who knows what. I probably would have run into the tornado instead of run from it. Yeah, but thank you. Very much.” Cora laughed as she sat down after her lyrics had died down. Summer’s heart was pounding in the silence that sat between them as he drew closer to her. He wanted to feel the warmth of her body against his, like when they had brushed against each other in their pursuit away from the tornado. He was relieved that she was not injured and that she was okay, but now nerves were settling in. The brute had not had much contact with other lupines recently, not after he became separated from his family, and he was worried of looking foolish in front of the pretty ess. His yellow orbs looked towards her green ones, wondering what her thoughts were, afraid to voice the thoughts that were swimming through his mind. The smoky brute finally plucked up some courage and leaned closer to Cora, his face nuzzling her affectionately as he finally opened his maw to speak, ”I’m glad I could help Cora. I…I couldn’t imagine what life would be like if anything had happened to you. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I had let anything bad happen to you back there.” He began to mumble as his speech died off, afraid of saying too much too quickly. He knew that the two had only recently met, but he could not lie to himself about the feelings he had grown for the femme. The brute pulled away slightly from Cora, trying to meet her pretty green orbs, to try and gauge her reaction to his words. Worry and fear threatened to overwhelm him. He did not know what he would do if she tried to leave right now, if she did not share the feelings that he did, and he was worried that was exactly what she would do now. ________________________________________________________________________ |
