my heart wants roots, my mind wants wings Posted on February 22, 2014 at 01:49:57 PM by sable

Sable had been staring at her hooves and the way the sand cupped them as she moved, but when her companion introduced himself finally, she lifted her head to meet his eyes curiously. His smile was infectious, and drew a small, shy one out of her in return, though she quickly looked away again this time out at the beach that stretched out before them as if to hide it. Im Sable, she said quietly, and was secretly pleased at how their name complemented each other. Just like me and Satitba. So many Ss!
The wind was brisk and made her eyes water, but she was grateful for it, for it took the edge off the intense warmth from the sun and helped dry her coat more quickly. A few moments of silence followed, but it was not awkward; Sable spent them admiring the landscape. She thought she could see a break in the trees ahead, and the premise made her heart lift with hope. Perhaps we are not so far from food and water as he suggested.
His question caught her off-guard, and her mind began racing. In a small, high voice she replied, Um, from the continent originally. I suppose you could say Im travelling. His words seemed to suggest she had no real reason to want to come here, which confused her, for as far as she could see this place was pleasant and beautiful and full of life, if a bit warm. Soon her curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to press him further. This is your home, I take it? Does it have a name?
