Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

Natu sat on the banks of the river as dawn began to settle across the land. It would last for a brief few minutes before daylight completely consumed the land but she enjoyed the magnificent sight anyways. Unfortunately this winter day would not reveal a spectacular display as dull grey clouds drifted across the vast sky ready to block out the sun and continue with the chill that lay like a blanket across Moladion. So she was disappointed when she only caught a few glimpses of pinks and oranges at the edges of some clouds when they split apart for mere seconds before regrouping. She had hoped that Spring might attempt her coup today and bless the land with some sunshine.

She felt the keen sting of loneliness this morning. It seemed time passed her by without ever giving her a change - something to look forward to. Long ago, or so it seemed to her, she had been in love and mated and had a set of pups but they were all gone now. Taken by war and by nature leaving her bereft. Empty; hollow.

Sighing into the cold air Natu watches the mist of her breath dissipate and wonders if she too will fade into nothingness one day. Yesterday she had been good but today her mood had dipped and she wallowed. Standing she decides to walk the riverbank, her restlessness the only thing that she can control for the moment. The water has a fine sheen of ice over it but in some spots she can see it flowing, breaking through the ice. She watches it for a time as she walks but is caught by the sound of movement towards the woodlands.

Turning her white snout in the direction of the sound she spots the pup, Maud, and immediately her ears prick forward, her blue eyes lighting up. It had been so long since she had been around a pup and her motherly instinct flared, pushing back the bitter loneliness for the moment. Natu walks towards Maud, careful not to startle her and smiles with warm eyes watching the young female. "Hello there. What are you doing out here so far from your parents?"
