Danny hadn't thought anything of his note-taking, having become so accustomed to doing so with Dr. Gupta it was practically second nature, but he flushed when Thoth seemed to abruptly realize what he was doing. He hoped the boy wasn't insulted, somehow, by him doing it, but Danny really wanted to remember anything and everything he heard. So, when he answered, his nod was a little awkward and self-conscious.
"Yeah, is that okay?" he asked nervously. The more he looked at Thoth the more uncomfortable the other boy seemed to appear, but Danny didn't put away his notepad just yet. Unless Thoth made him, Danny had every intention of taking even more notes. Thoth accepted the bandages Danny was offering, then set about caring for General. The boy watched intently, his pencil flying across the paper as he noted down the steps Thoth took, first cleaning the wound. Danny, trying to do so subtly, leaned over and sniffed at the liquid Thoth used on the wing in an attempt to discern any what exactly it was, before scribbling a note about water into the margin. He followed this with a note that he should talk to his new deity-mentor, Khasekhemwy, about herbs that could be used on animals as well as humans for future reference. Then he focused in on how Thoth bandaged the wing, surprised by how calm General managed to remain while he did it. He scribbled a quick drawing of how the harness fit, eager to investigate it further. His face brightened, unable to hide the eager expression in his eyes, as Thoth relayed everything he'd done for Danny. His hand was a blur as he tried to write down all the information he could, flipping a page as he did. "She could..." Danny started to announce she could stay with him, but then he hesitated. Would he really be the best option for General? The boy bit his lip. Thoth was much more knowledgeable, but Danny knew he could learn a lot more about caring for injured birds with first-hand experience. "Are they hard to take care of? Birds, I mean. Do you think she'd be okay staying with me? I don't want to mess it up, but I'd really like to try. Maybe you could tell me what all I'd need?" The boy couldn't hide his eager expression, nor the worry that he'd mess things up either. He was really hopeful Thoth would let him pick his brain on future occasions, but just in case he tried to think of all the questions he needed to get answered right away. |
