I’m always one for company. But I recognized the other mare. I remembered having met her last time I went into the Ridge. I guess she had left after the change in management. Can’t say I blamed her - lots of mares do it. Heck, if I had left the Bay after Skua disappeared, maybe Rurisk wouldn’t have found me. But life isn’t made on what ifs. Pleasant journeys sometimes, though. I shook my head a little. I had been thinking a lot about Rurisk and Satitba lately - must be the hormones.

I knew I was ready.

I was going to address Sylvia when Xina materialized and shoved her way next to me. Her ears were pinned and I could tell she was being… Xina. Honestly, I think this mare is just a sour sort. How Mera turned out from her I won’t understand - maybe it was her sire. I dunno. I stepped to the side a bit to give myself some breathing room. I looked at Xina and back at Sylvia.

“ ‘Ella again,” I said with my normal voice. “Ah’m Die-uh. Dis is Zeena. An’ dun ‘ake na offense, sheh’s jus’ bein’ ‘erself.” I didn’t know Xina too well. I suppose I should correct that sometime. Hopefully soon. Maybe after this kiddo is born and you know… running around and I can run and everything can be better.

Yeah. Did I mention this was the unfun part of being pregnant?

I looked at Xina and back at Sylvia.

“Sa… Sawhin’s ledd’n ya s’ay ‘ere?” The word choice she had given was interesting. Did that mean she wasn’t apart of the herd? In which case I guess that meant she was staying till her kid was old enough to swim and then splitting? Maybe. But, that was Sahin for ya. And that’s why I love him. I guess Xina and I had the same question. Just, mine was said nicer.
