The words came out of his mouth; slowly, and then all at once. His thoughts molded with them, the actual truth hidden between each line starting to be a realization for him all at once. They developed clearly in his vocals, his kissers forming each word with great care as he took the time to share what his hearts was screaming, bleeding. And, if this did in fact happen to end up being the worst day of his life, at least he got the clarity he needed. She would leave for her own reasons now, not because she was afraid. But maybe she still was. And that was alright. Because he was afraid too. He was awkward and nervous, and that was just the tip of the iceberg. A slow tremor of warmth started to flow from the bottom of his stomach.

And, in moments, his words were gone, and silence filled the empty spaces in the darkness. Zev could see the outline of Athene’s body figure, lithe and still and everything representing a shadow. He wanted that shadow; with all of his heart and soul. So, he concluded his speech, and with it came the unruly choice. It was now, or nevermore. Forevermore. But, for reasons he couldn’t fathom, the silence was not interrupted. Zev waited longer, his heart starting to race and heat flooding into his facial features. Maybe she didn’t feel that way about him. Maybe he had appeared a silly brute who fell in love too easily. But that wasn’t true at all; she was the first wolf that ever crossed his mind more than fifteen times a day. Perhaps the vixen needed more time, and she should say that. But the longer the titan stood there, the more he was certain that the outline of the girl’s body was not there anymore. Until, finally, he took a breath, one shaky and horrible breath, and turned. And started to walk away.

Surprisingly, he didn’t feel numb. He wasn’t sure if he felt broken or destroyed, trapped in a large pit he couldn’t climb out of. It was something else, something he had never felt to this extent. Shock. He had thought the girl that had been with him the last few seconds of their lives had felt the same way that he did; that she loved him the way he loved her. Zev felt his auds plaster to his head, and he turned his head back to be cradled in his neck while his maw turned into a straight and very thin line. With a swift movement of his paws, he started to descend down the staircase. “Zev, wait!” And he stopped so abruptly, the joint connecting his forelimb and leg hyperextended backwards. However, the pain was nonexistent as the voice of his love was returned by another spark of vocals. “Stay with me.” He jumped from his place at the top of the stairs, and the shock he had felt earlier curled his lips up into a desperate smile. The brute almost laughed out a chuckle, but pulled it back as he ran forward, even with the dim light, and pushed himself to Athene for a full embrace, folding his head over her neck and breathing in her wonderful perfume.

“I thought you left....I wasn’t sure....you changed your mind.” He exhaled softly. So many different emotions were battling inside of him for total control, and he was swamped with the overwhelming power. Despite his large size compared to hers, he felt himself mold together with her, and he pulled back, placing his forehead on hers. A whisper barely audible left his lips. “I’m glad you chose me too.”
