At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

It may have been his own fault that his mother was killed, that his father and adoptive sister still remained missing in action – he was foolish, even if he had been in his teenage stage. He had allowed his pack mates to drag him away as he watched those damned creatures slaughter his mother! Why couldn’t he move his limbs, why had they seemed so heavy? He could have saved lives! -- And the others, why hadn’t they fought back? Such a large and powering family, reduced to merely nothing by the end of the incident? It was completely outrageous. Those.. those things.. they had been the cause, nonetheless, even if everyone’s death had been Eren’s fault. How great were they truly? Was it simply because they were of greater height, being hoisted upon two tall stilts? What advantage did that give them? Their bare bodices or the fur along their craniums? No matter what the damned things were, they were no greater. And the boy had convinced himself that he would wipe them out – follow their stench and invade their packlands as they did his. He would tear them apart, rip their fucking eyes out.. He would tear them to shreds! He would slice the bastards into pieces, and then he would devour them – every last one.

Perhaps, that is, if he hadn’t of lost their scent along the way.

“Damn..”, the words rolled along his tongue in a whisper as the shaded beast, having now reached adulthood, hauled himself up steadily along the stone staircase. He lost them.. All of his effort, his precious dedication.. And it was gone, all gone.. And what had he to show for it? He was every last bit of alone as he was when the incident occurred. What purpose had he left? The thoughts rushed throughout his mind in great waves, managing only to irritate the male’s already harsh temper.

“Damn it!”, he snarled, sending an unsuccessful strike down towards the liquid that proceeded to continuously stream beneath him. Where were they, anyways? Why had they fled so quickly, even after slaughtering his family? What wrong had his pack done them? Why wouldn’t they face him also? It infuriated him, and once again, he sent a cry of littering curses through the air, followed by the crack of splintering wood as he began to throw his weight harshly against a nearby tree. His breathing was ragged, now, his chest rising and falling in heavy heaves; though the process was repeated, over and over, until the splintered bark had made an attempt to slice through his thick robes.

With a nearly inaudible sigh of defeat, the beast allowed his shaded bodice to carelessly collapse onto the dampened earth. He was exhausted, -- not only from his injudicious clash with the pine, but his travel. He had come so far.. Had this whole journey been a mistake on his part? What about those.. things? What were they, exactly? Communication could be sensed throughout them. Why couldn’t he understand their language? How were they able to slaughter through his companions without so much as a single touch? He didn’t realize how unaware he truly was of these creatures, of their intentions; but he was sure of one thing. He would find them, he would track down their scent once more, or that they would foolishly manage to find him once more.

And then, he would kill them.

"Fight!," he snarled.
