Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Perhaps being a loner runs in the blood, Gaia found herself thinking as she padded softly along the edge of the vast field. Bi-colored eyes gazed out at the thousands of flowers mixed in with the tall, lush grass. Two years ago, Gaia would have taken off into those flowers giggling like a child hoping there were some butterflies to chase. But those days were long gone and a new wolfess stood here now. Still a year to go until she was considered an adult but everything about Gaia was already fully grown.

She was small, just like her father, and would never become as big as her mother or brothers. Her fur was long and wispy which flowed with the gentle breeze like a spectral spirit. Though she was healthy, proof by her soft coat and freshly engorged belly, there was a bit of emptiness about her. The once bright eyes were dull. Her head seemed to hang slightly lower than should be acceptable for a wolf so young.

Gaia was lost. Not in the sense of location as she knew Ruieze Fields very well. No, it was deeper. She lacked a sense of purpose, a sense of belonging. Living in Iromar for a time had been nice and it had allowed her wounds to heal after she had been attacked by Flare. Before the memory could emerge again, Gaia quickly stopped it and tucked it away so it never saw the light of day. After leaving Iromar, Gaia returned to the life of a loner, just like her father and mother before her.

Suddenly, a flash of white caught her attention from the corner of her eye and Gaia turned to see a small wolfess, even slightly smaller than she was, standing on the edges of Ruieze Lake. For a moment, Gaia considered just walking away but curiosity got the better of her and she moved at a slow trot towards the stranger. Her bowed back legs made her have a slight limp as she moved but it did little to hinder her movements. It didn't take her long to reach the girl, who Gaia thought must be a puppy, and let out a small whimper of a greeting. "Hello, nice day we're having, isn't it? My name is Gaia, who are you?"
